DAY 062
THAT MOMENT OF EXPERIENCE

The day begins like any other might. The clouds occasionally part to give glimpses of the sun, offering a bit of hope that the hours might pass without incident. It is a hope that is soon dashed, however, for midday brings with it a suddenly darkening sky. Those near the beach will be able to see the ocean churning as all light seems to be bled from the day, the sky darkening into a purplish-black more quickly than is natural, the process taking a mere ten minutes from start to finish.

And then it begins.

The rain is so heavy and pouring so fast that the ground cannot take it all in, sending rivers down streets and leaving lawns as lakes. The winds blow in gusts so strong that they could knock someone over, and the lightning that arcs brightly through the sky is immediately followed by thunder that shakes the town to its core, the tremors almost reminiscent of the earthquakes that plagued the town only days ago.

For some, the storm will be another nuisance of mother nature, forcing them to remain wherever they were before its sudden approach. But for others, it will be far more than that, for this storm is seeking revenge on those who sought to destroy the town. Destruction will rain down and it will not stop until its vengeance is satisfied.

THE NEW ARRIVALS
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake up on the beach near The Grey Gull. It's a bit chilly out with their wet clothes, but surely there's something to help warm them inside the restaurant. If nothing else, the cowboys' homemade moonshine should do the trick.

ABOUT THE STORM
The storm will begin at midday and last until late into the night, only calming in the early hours of the morning. The heavy rain will flood the streets, though it will not be enough to flood the buildings themselves (except as noted below), and the winds and thunder will shake the town with such strength that it will almost seem as if the town is trying to tear itself apart.

But this is not a simple storm. For those residents who took part in any way in the destruction of the Town Hall, History Museum, or Stoker Park house, they will find the storm will destroy their shelter in some fashion. This can include broken windows, caved-in roofs, flooding from the rain, or even lightning striking the building. The details are up to player choice but something will be damaged by the storm.

— All damage to buildings will be repaired by the dawn of the following day as if it never happened at all. There is no way to witness this process taking place.
— If a resident is sheltering in a shared living space with others who did not take part in the destruction of the town, you may choose to have only your character's section of that location damaged. However...
— The storm's focus will follow the resident if they move to another area or location, meaning that the new location will also suffer damage in some way.
— Only those who took part in the town destruction in some way will be targeted by the storm, but innocent bystanders can be caught up in the situation as well.

CONDITIONS UPDATE

— THE WEATHER conditions remain fairly typical for early fall: warm days and cool nights. It feels almost like spring arriving except that there fewer red and orange leaves on the ground and more of them oddly returning to the trees and slowly fading to green. It's like watching one of those nature documentaries that have a timelapse of the seasons, only it's going in reverse.

— THE FOG has retreated from some areas!
— Residents may now wander the southern stretch of the forest surrounding Mathias Township — it is possible to leave the paths but potentially unwise to do so.
— The fog has also retreated farther into the western section of town, now stretching across town between Stine Road and Shelley Drive. This has revealed the Chasm in the earth that stretches from one side of town to the other between Stine and Hill Lane.
— Access to the northern section of the forest is still blocked beginning a few dozen yards past the treeline; this section of fog will urge residents to stay huddled within the town proper by inducing a physical reaction of panic and fear.

— DISAPPEARANCES continue! Ellie has vanished while others have returned.

— ALCOHOL supplies have run dry, save for any dregs that have been squirreled away by individual residents. Moonshine can still be acquired by those in desperate need.

— PART II The next part of the log series will be have characters divided up (by OOC choice, not IC) into groups, so be sure to sign up for one asap. Anyone who doesn't make the deadline will be automatically assigned to an available spot.

( because she'd use it against him and she's never let him forget. so, she was just going to be elijah to her. )

( he was being helpful. )

If you're not going to tell me your middle name, then I won't tell you why you're annoying.

[ even though he can't see her with his back to her, she tilts her head up and pokes her tongue out at him. two can play at this game. she wipes down her legs as best she can, feeling like she's just rubbing water against water at this point. ]

That seems fair to me.

Well, unlike you, I can deal with not knowing why I'm annoying. I'll forget about that in a few moments.

( he turns his head just slightly but doesn't look back, still giving her the privacy she desires. )

You'll probably wonder about my middle name for quite some time.

( and maybe she'd eventually get it out of him if she was persistent enough. )

Nigel? No. [ she shakes her head and drops the towel to the floor. ] Rupert? Albert? Augustus?

[ crinkling her face, she shakes her head. none of those sound particularly nice. elena pulls her panties down her legs and kicks them off, and steps into her dry ones almost immediately, only glancing at him once to make sure he's not pulling a damon. ]

Bernard? You're so a Bernard.

I honestly think I'd prefer the eye spy game over you trying to guess my middle name when there are nearly an infinite amount of names in the universe.

( they would be here forever. everything around them would continue as elena tried to guess his middle name. )

So, I'd advise you to just forget about it, Elena.

Elijah Bernard Mikaelson.

[ now, with her jeans tugged up to her hips, she unclips her bra and slips on a new one. humming happily, she can't say she likes that name a tall. it's too... ugly. not at all classic like him. ]

There's no way your middle name is Michael. Elijah Michael Mikaelson? You might as well have been called Mike Michael Mikaelson.

Elena, if you're going to keep guessing, do you mind if I sit down and take a nap? You'll still be reciting names when I've gotten up and you'll still be wrong.

( because even if she happened to hit the right name, he wasn't going to tell her that. )

A grandpa nap for Elijah Johnson Mikaelson?

[ she wrinkles her nose at that. too many "sons" in that name. she tugs her shirt over her head and tugs her wet hair out. maybe she should've tried to dry that a little better, considering it's now clinging to her back.

taking this moment to eye his back, elena turns and crosses her arms against her chest. ]

I bet it's a really old and forgotten name. You seem really ancient.

You know I'm old, Elena. How does one seem ancient anyway?

( all elijah does is shake his head, still turned around so he can't see her. he sighs, crossing his arms and working his jaw back and forth. )

And does it really matter what my middle name is? Really?

Yes.

[ she thinks to tell him to look around, but she continues to observe his back. elijah really would look better—and perhaps more comfortable—in a suit. she never really gets to see him like this; the confident line of his shoulders, the way he stands tall and unrelaxed. ]

I want to know if your parents ever gave you one and what it means. And I'm nosy.[ she shrugs. ] I like knowing things.

Well, you're not going to know this.

( because it's an insignificant piece of information that's going to have no bearing on their relationship. so, he's not going to tell her. )

So, I would advise you to give it up because it's not going to work. Even if you happened to guess it correctly, I wouldn't tell you it was right.

[ he's the unfun police, seriously. ]

You can turn around. I'm decent.

[ still looking like a drowned rat, however. she keeps her soaked clothes in a pile on the floor by her feet. she feels dry now... even if her hair is thick and wet and heavy. ]

( elijah waits a second longer and then turns, giving her a look over. she still looks soaked but she doesn't look like she's going to wash away in the water that's clinging to her. )

Come sit down.

( because after whatever she's been doing out there, he knows there has to be some exhaustion there. she'd gone out in the driving rain for no reason at all (if it had to do with him, she shouldn't have done it) and he wants her to rest. )

Tell me again what you were doing outside.

I told you. I was getting clothes.

[ elena comes and sits down on the edge of the bed, still a little mindful that she could be wet. she peers at the sopping bag that's now leaving a water ring around it. his suit is most definitely wet. she can only hope it's not made out of the kind of material that shrinks when caught in torrential rain.

she rubs her hands against her thighs. ]

We probably won't be able to wear them for a while.

But there was no need to get clothes. We have clothes.

( they have clothes so there was no need for her to go out and nearly drown. he shakes his head. )

Do you want to show me?

( it might not be the reveal that she wants but she can at least show him what she'd risked her life for. )

[ she sighs. ] Okay.

[ she pushes herself off the bed and walks over to the bag. squatting, she gingerly opens the zipper—it's cold and wet—and carefully peels that open. rifling through the clothes, she tugs out jackets and shirts and jeans for herself, dropping them into a clump on the floor. it's when she finds his drenched suit pants and blazer that she hangs them over her arm. ]

There was a need for clothes because you don't have this.

Elena.

( his tone is soft but chiding. he'd had a feeling that's what she'd been going for and to see it here, all he can feel is...unworthy of the attention she gives him. she should be taking care of herself and she spends it trying to make him happy. )

You really didn't need to do that.

( it doesn't matter if it's not the same style as he usually wears, it's the fact that she'd tried to find a suit for him. )

I told you I'd find you a suit.

[ she looks at him pointedly in a bid to try and hide the raging hot blush that's climbing up her neck and trying to settle into her cheeks. all she has wanted is for elijah to feel a little comfortable. he's expressed he feels like he can't control anything—and that he feels helpless—so all she had wanted was to give him something that might inspire him to feel better... to feel comfortable.

peering down at the suit, she gives it a squeeze and pushes water out of it. ]

This one's a little waterlogged. Sorry.

It'll dry.

( in truth, he doesn't think the suit's going to be salvageable but he appreciates her effort all the same. it's not like anyone else is going to go through the trouble to get him something like that. )

You really didn't need to do that, you realize. While I miss my suits, I'm quite fine in what I'm wearing. But thank you.

Really?

[ cue a look of obvious disbelief. there's no way in hell he's completely fine without them. while he can surprisingly rock a tracksuit, he doesn't seem comfortable. that bothers elena. ]

There's suits in the abandoned houses. You just have to find the right one. And it's not like anyone else is going to wear them. They're going to waste.

When the weather is better and we have some time, we can go over there. But you shouldn't have gone on your own.

( hadn't she lectured him about that? he's pretty sure he remembers her telling him not to go anywhere on his own.

elijah reaches for one of her hands, warming it up between his. )

To be fair...

[ she looks down at where he takes her hand and tries to warm it. it's so kind and... very elijah-like, she finds. elijah isn't cruel. he's a gentleman.

she takes this as her opportunity to stand up. keeping her other arm hanging by her side rather uselessly, she looks at how his big hand envelopes hers. already, she feels warmer. ]

It wasn't raining when I originally left.

I would have gone with you.

( even if she'd been trying to surprise him, he still would have wanted to go with her and help her and at least make sure they were both soaking wet and not just her. )

To help you.

( just like he knows she'd insist on going with him. )

I know.

[ she has a feeling that no matter what she does, he won't accept that. she should've told him so that she would've ruined her surprise that way. ]

I thought I would be out for at least an hour. But then the rain... [ elena sighs heavily, shoulders slumping. she cards her hands through her wet hair, finding it difficult to drag the heavy strands between her fingers.

she smiles proudly at him, ] You have a suit, though.

I do. Hopefully it'll dry in a few hours time.

( he can't help but tease her a bit but he really is touched that she'd decided to do something like that for him.

he smiles over at her, giving her shoulder a quick squeeze. )

I'm sure it'll be very nice once it's not saturated like it is.
