DAY 062
THAT MOMENT OF EXPERIENCE

The day begins like any other might. The clouds occasionally part to give glimpses of the sun, offering a bit of hope that the hours might pass without incident. It is a hope that is soon dashed, however, for midday brings with it a suddenly darkening sky. Those near the beach will be able to see the ocean churning as all light seems to be bled from the day, the sky darkening into a purplish-black more quickly than is natural, the process taking a mere ten minutes from start to finish.

And then it begins.

The rain is so heavy and pouring so fast that the ground cannot take it all in, sending rivers down streets and leaving lawns as lakes. The winds blow in gusts so strong that they could knock someone over, and the lightning that arcs brightly through the sky is immediately followed by thunder that shakes the town to its core, the tremors almost reminiscent of the earthquakes that plagued the town only days ago.

For some, the storm will be another nuisance of mother nature, forcing them to remain wherever they were before its sudden approach. But for others, it will be far more than that, for this storm is seeking revenge on those who sought to destroy the town. Destruction will rain down and it will not stop until its vengeance is satisfied.

THE NEW ARRIVALS
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake up on the beach near The Grey Gull. It's a bit chilly out with their wet clothes, but surely there's something to help warm them inside the restaurant. If nothing else, the cowboys' homemade moonshine should do the trick.

ABOUT THE STORM
The storm will begin at midday and last until late into the night, only calming in the early hours of the morning. The heavy rain will flood the streets, though it will not be enough to flood the buildings themselves (except as noted below), and the winds and thunder will shake the town with such strength that it will almost seem as if the town is trying to tear itself apart.

But this is not a simple storm. For those residents who took part in any way in the destruction of the Town Hall, History Museum, or Stoker Park house, they will find the storm will destroy their shelter in some fashion. This can include broken windows, caved-in roofs, flooding from the rain, or even lightning striking the building. The details are up to player choice but something will be damaged by the storm.

— All damage to buildings will be repaired by the dawn of the following day as if it never happened at all. There is no way to witness this process taking place.
— If a resident is sheltering in a shared living space with others who did not take part in the destruction of the town, you may choose to have only your character's section of that location damaged. However...
— The storm's focus will follow the resident if they move to another area or location, meaning that the new location will also suffer damage in some way.
— Only those who took part in the town destruction in some way will be targeted by the storm, but innocent bystanders can be caught up in the situation as well.

CONDITIONS UPDATE

— THE WEATHER conditions remain fairly typical for early fall: warm days and cool nights. It feels almost like spring arriving except that there fewer red and orange leaves on the ground and more of them oddly returning to the trees and slowly fading to green. It's like watching one of those nature documentaries that have a timelapse of the seasons, only it's going in reverse.

— THE FOG has retreated from some areas!
— Residents may now wander the southern stretch of the forest surrounding Mathias Township — it is possible to leave the paths but potentially unwise to do so.
— The fog has also retreated farther into the western section of town, now stretching across town between Stine Road and Shelley Drive. This has revealed the Chasm in the earth that stretches from one side of town to the other between Stine and Hill Lane.
— Access to the northern section of the forest is still blocked beginning a few dozen yards past the treeline; this section of fog will urge residents to stay huddled within the town proper by inducing a physical reaction of panic and fear.

— DISAPPEARANCES continue! Ellie has vanished while others have returned.

— ALCOHOL supplies have run dry, save for any dregs that have been squirreled away by individual residents. Moonshine can still be acquired by those in desperate need.

— PART II The next part of the log series will be have characters divided up (by OOC choice, not IC) into groups, so be sure to sign up for one asap. Anyone who doesn't make the deadline will be automatically assigned to an available spot.

Changes to locations (like toppling a few bookshelves in the library), big plots you have coming up that will affect the game (parties, major property destruction, etc), or exciting discoveries that may tie into the game's mythology (even the things provided by the mod) are very helpful to have in one place so relevant page updates can be made. IC events are also helpful to know about in advance so they can be included in the log write-ups.

[ she has a feeling that no matter what she does, he won't accept that. she should've told him so that she would've ruined her surprise that way. ]

I thought I would be out for at least an hour. But then the rain... [ elena sighs heavily, shoulders slumping. she cards her hands through her wet hair, finding it difficult to drag the heavy strands between her fingers.

she smiles proudly at him, ] You have a suit, though.

I do. Hopefully it'll dry in a few hours time.

( he can't help but tease her a bit but he really is touched that she'd decided to do something like that for him.

he smiles over at her, giving her shoulder a quick squeeze. )

I'm sure it'll be very nice once it's not saturated like it is.

Hopefully.

[ elena can't help but sigh heavily, her shoulders slumping. the one suit she's been able to find in mathias and it's potentially already in tatters. it seems like lady luck may not favour her entirely. ]

You just look very weird in track pants. [ she crinkles her nose up at him in a tease. ] Very weird.

Yes well, I don't really care for track pants but if I have to wear them so I don't walk around naked, I suppose that's going to happen.

( he really does hope the suit dries okay because he will wear it and he'll enjoy it. )

I would rather not show off my entire body to random people.

That would be unfortunate.

[ what does a girl say to that??? clearly something weird.

elena busies herself by picking up her wet clothes, pulling a face when small beads of water drip and land with a splat against the floor. she really, really was soaked through. no wonder she had a difficult time walking back to the boarding house—she was carrying her weight and then some. ]

I should try and dry these before they leave a water stain that weakens the floor.

You're concerned about the integrity of the floor?

( elijah eyes her but doesn't try and stop her. he doesn't know if there's a way to stop her when she gets her mind onto something. )

I think we could wait on the clothes, you know. Why don't you come sit down and just...take the rest of the day off?

[ elena looks down at the pile of clothing as if it'll produce something to keep her busy. but it doesn't. it's just a pile of drenched clothing. sitting down feels like something she's done since she arrived here, but elena knows that's not entirely true. she's stuck her nose in many places where it doesn't belong, and she's walked around town with him and learned that there's too much to learn and nothing to learn it by.

her hands feel cold as she continues to hold the clothing... and then she drops it onto the ground. perhaps it's a bit petulant, but she hadn't done it in a fit. ]

Okay, maybe you're right. [ she narrows her eyes playfully at him and points her finger. ] I'm never repeating that again.

That's probably very wise. I don't want you to repeat it again.

( he doesn't need a suit especially at the expense of her health. she's fine, just wet and cold, but it could have been worse. he stands, gesturing over at the bed. )

Come on, sit down. Rest. Recover from your very arduous journey out to get a suit that you didn't need to get.

I did need to get it!

[ elena sighs heavily and in amusement, moving over to the bed to drop on it heavily. rubbing her hands against her thighs, she shakes her head. she doesn't feel guilty about searching for a suit for him. it's been a good objective, a fun little mission to task herself with. she's managed to break into homes and ransack them, and has learned absolutely nothing profound about the people who used to live here.

but it's kept her busy, and that's all that's mattered. ]

Are you always like this whenever someone wants to do something for you?

It doesn't happen all that often. I just know that if I'd done the same thing, you would be chiding me for going out.

( don't even try and deny it, elena, you know it's true. you would have tried to get him dry and then been all over him for potentially risking his safety. )

I appreciate you trying to get something for me, Elena, I do. But suits aren't really that important. Your safety is.

[ rubbing her hands a little hard against her thighs, she's frustrated to know that she can't quite out-quip him out of this one. it's true; if it had been the other way around, she would've chewed him out for going outside and risking hurting himself in the rain. his senses were dulled. ]

I'm not going to stop looking for a suit.

[ she peers up at him, chin tilted upward a little defiantly. ]

I'll just make sure to do it when it's dry.

Would you please come and lay down so you can recover from your ordeal?

( it hadn't been that big of an ordeal but he still wants her to sit down and to stop worrying about him. he feels strange when people, especially her, worry. )

When the weather improves, you and I both will go out and try to find a suit. Is that agreeable?

Yes.

[ although, if he's busy doing elijah things, she's going to set out and try and find him a suit nonetheless! she's grateful he doesn't try and make her sign anything.

but she's seated on the bed and taps her fingers against the sides of the sheets. she doesn't know if she wants to lie down right now. with her adrenaline still surging through her, she's not quite sure she'll stay still. ]

You lie down first. You're older.

Oh, am I to lie down with you?

( he'd figured she'd try that but he'd been hoping that she'd just lay down and let him sit in one of the chairs in the room.

but that's not going to happen. and considering he'd just gotten her to agree to something, he knows he probably can't fight her on this.

so, he sighs and slips onto the bed, moving over and stretching out. )

And usually you have such an aversion to the bed.

[ she's twisted around so she can look at him with a smile. the floor's no good for him right now. she's pretty sure she's tracked in a lot of water, particularly over the spots that he seems to favour at night.

knowing she can't quite stall, she pushes up from the bed and brushes her hands against her upper thighs. walking over to the other side of the bed, she rests her knee against it before she drops down against it on her back, her legs still thrown over the side of the bed. ]

It's not an aversion. I just prefer you be comfortable rather than me take up any space.

( he's trying to be noble, all right. she's a human, she's fragile, she deserves the bed. )

I've slept in the bed more often lately and that is not something you can debate.

Because I won the argument.

[ she shifts, lifting her shoulders so she can set them comfortably and a little arrogantly against the bed. she keeps her hands clasped against her chest. he's on the bed because she poked and poked and poked and he finally gave in.

elena's not going to stop feeling proud about that.

turning her head to face him, she smiles smugly. ]

And you lost.

You temporarily won, Elena. Just because I'm in the bed now doesn't mean I'm going to remain here.

( because now he's going to try and slide out of the bed when she's asleep and sleep on the floor just to prove her wrong. )

But I'm not surprised that this is a victory that you're going to claim. You would.

( so would he. )
