DAY 028
SOMETHING ON THE WIND
Another day dawns in the fair town of Mathias. The sky is a blanket of light grey, tiny specks of snow lightly falling as the hours pass. It makes the town feel almost quaint, the scenery quite peaceful in its winter garb. But beneath the veneer of peace there is a pervasive dread of something approaching. Something inevitable is on the wind, something that has come before and will come again...
Throughout the day, residents will consistently experience feelings of deja vu, that sense of having done or seen or said something before that can never be fully recalled. It happens again and again, tugging at the back of their minds, the memories just frustratingly out of reach.
Residents will also notice a note pinned around town:
The note can be found on the town hall's bulletin board and the front doors of many town establishments, including the Grey Gull, the library, and the boarding house. At the bottom of the note it is specified that the meeting will take place "tomorrow, when the sun is over the town square."NEW ARRIVALs
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake on the frozen lawn of the town hall atop a snowdrift. They had best hurry inside and get warmed up before hypothermia sets in.

DAY 029
A GATHERING OF MINDS
In the late afternoon when the sun hangs over the town square, residents will converge upon the Town Hall, where a larger meeting room has been filled with rows of chairs. After most people arrive, John Constantine stands and addresses the room... and then sits again. A grand introduction, truly.
Residents are encouraged to share their experiences and information they have gathered in the town while holding questions until the end. Rather than getting tangled in the intricacies of each person's tale, it seems better to absorb the broad strokes and try to connect the puzzle pieces to get a look at the bigger picture that is the mystery of Mathias Township.THE INEVITABLE
As the meeting comes to an end and residents begin to converse among themselves, the feeling of something approaching and sense of deja vu begin to build, becoming almost oppressive as night falls. An hour after nightfall, residents learn the reason for these sensations that cease immediately as the earth begins to rumble. The buildings shake, furniture tumbles, and breakables crash to the floor as the earthquake sets in without warning.
The tremors last around a minute, far longer than a normal earthquake, and then the town settles again. There are no aftershocks, which many may note is quite unusual. Residents will find quite a bit of mess in their homes and other locations around town, but there is no structural damage to be found despite the intense shaking.

CONDITIONS UPDATE — THE WEATHER is fairly typical of a northern winter. The sky is grey, the temperature hovers just below freezing during the day (colder at night), and a light snow falls during both days. Residents should bundle up when going outside and not venture too far into the dark night...
— THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is ill-advised.
— DISAPPEARANCES continue with Sherlock Holmes being the latest victim of the town's unsettling whims.OOC NOTES — TOWN MEETING STRUCTURE The town meeting section of the log is designed for characters to share any information they would like to with the other residents in attendance. ICly, characters should "hold questions until the end" with the intent that they can get the Big Picture first and connect any dots they see. OOCly, this means players should post their character's information sharing tag in the Meeting section, but the actual conversation about whatever they share happens after the meeting proper in the Mingle section. That way, these conversations can happen however players prefer, be that one-on-one or in small or large groups.
— HOUSING Please be sure your character's housing arrangements are up to date on our list. We're missing a few people and it really helps to know where everyone is for planning. Frequent updates for wandering characters are perfectly acceptable.
— THE BULLETIN BOARD has been updated. Players should note there is a change to the wall near the board that may be of great interest to some residents.
no subject
( he looks her over, wondering how she's doing, wondering what she's thinking before he nods and reaches for her elbow, trying to steer her towards the door. )
Let's go.
( he doesn't know where they're going but he wants to not be here any longer. he needs to take a breath. )
no subject
she opens the door and steps outside, keeping her hand on its knob as she pulls it as wide as it'll allow her to let elijah out. ]
Did you have some nice conversations?
[ how does one ask "so, did anyone decide they're going to try and stake you?" without actually saying so? for once, elena's trying to have tact. ]
no subject
( he peers over at her, frowning. he thinks he's kept his looks fairly well over the years. he's changed his hair, his clothing but his face has maintained its appearance. )
No one should be that unlucky to have me as a grandfather.
( it would be a disaster. )
no subject
so, they're not going to talk about the elephant in the room right off the bat. that's fine; she imagines he's tired of having that conversation and she doesn't want to make him relive it so quickly. ]
Well, you are old… but at least you'd be a hot grandfather?
[ she scrunches up her face as if to ask whether that's comforting enough for him. this is how she'd talk to caroline and bonnie, not one of the oldest vampires in the history of time. ]
no subject
( elijah's just going to shoot her a look for that one before he shakes his head. he doesn't want to be a grandfather even if her words are a compliment. )
That's quite the mental image to put in my head, Elena.
( he sighs, peering up at the sky and then over at her. )
How are you feeling?
no subject
[ she feels okay. she feels a lot like herself for the first time in days. having information unloaded upon her for her to quickly process and simply accept feels very, very normal these days. elijah once had a hand in that, back before everything came to an eventual end.
brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear, she looks up at him with an arch of her brow and a small smile. ]
How are you?
no subject
( honestly, he'd expected worse. he'd thought things would go much, much worse but he's glad to have been wrong.)
I'm trying to process the sheer amount of information we were just given but I'm fine.
( it was good to have, though. it gave them a starting point. )
no subject
[ she can't help but lightly laugh, shaking her head. the info dumping at town hall had been intense. elena's not sure she even wrote her notes eligibly. but it makes her feel better to know someone like elijah had felt overwhelmed by the information, too. it makes him seem normal. ]
How much information do you think people unloaded? I swear some people made it sound like they were telling a fake story.
no subject
( though he thinks what he said was more important than the sheer amount he gave. he swallows, giving his head a shake. )
It's good information to have. Did you take notes?
( because he hadn't. )
I have a good memory but I don't think I can recall every single thing people said in this meeting.
no subject
I even took notes on you.
[ feeling awkward, she hugs the notebook back to her chest, both arms wrapping around it. ]
Some people were talking how they used to hunt.
no subject
( they're going to be okay. he knows that and if anyone deigned try to hunt him, they would regret it.
he reaches out and puts what he hopes is a calming hand on her shoulder. )
Don't worry, Elena. We're going to be fine.
no subject
she looks up at him, face earnest. ]
Are you?
[ she's not the vampire here. elena will always be fine. ]
no subject
( he smiles down at her and gives her shoulder a very gentle squeeze. )
I've faced worse than this and I actually think the reaction was better than I expecting. Most people seem accepting it and those that don't, I'll stay away from.
( he was fine with those that he knew and were comfortable with here. )
no subject
You'll tell me who those people are, right? I'll stay away from them, too.
[ he hasn't left her side even though she thinks he should've, so she won't leave his.
she looks away from him then. ]
That's what friends do.
no subject
( elijah doesn't think they need to worry too much about those people who might have an issue with what he is but he'll be sure to share anything that he hears. )
Fortunately, I think more people will be accepting than anything. Or at least they'll just ignore me. I'd prefer that than people trying to hunt me.
( he was tired of hunters. )
no subject
[ elena can't help her heavy exhale. she wraps her arms around herself, hugging her notebook to her chest. if anything happened to elijah, then she'd be all alone. she loses another person.
as content as she can be, she's a little settled knowing that elijah's at least okay. if he wasn't, she's not sure what she'd do, but she'd do something. ]
Did you find anything interesting? Other than the amount of information that was shared. I didn't expect people to have found so much.
no subject
( because as she says, a lot was said. and he's glad elena took notes because while his memory is good, there was still a lot more than he expected. )
I thought we could possibly discuss it together once we're back at the Boarding House.
no subject
with a teasing smile, ] I feel like we should get food. It's going to take us a few days to discuss all of that.
[ and she's a little hungry after all of that. ]
no subject
( for as much as you could find something good in a place like this. there was no way to get something gourmet or anything but the food wasn't terrible. )
I've a bottle of moonshine that I've been hording too if you want to try some. It's very strong, though.
no subject
[ elena isn't a lush by any means, but she enjoys a little sip or two of alcohol every now and then despite being underage... she could've used it when waking up in mathias. she thinks it's definitely going to help them digest all this information now. ]
You tell friends when you have alcohol, Elijah. It's the first rule of Friend Club.
no subject
( they should all get to drink in a town like this. he just doesn't want to be responsible for elena getting drunk and passing out. but maybe she needs that too. )
Besides, with everything going on, I'd forgotten that I had it but if we're going to be talking about all this research, we should have some.
no subject
Then we should walk quickly. [ she elongates her strides and teases, ] What if someone overheard and now wants to steal your moonshine?
no subject
( all right, so he hadn't listed all the things he was able to do because of what he is but he thinks that anyone would be very stupid to try especially when he had elena to protect. )
Did you want anything specifically to eat? I know our last meal of potato chips and sandwiches was very delicious.
no subject
[ elena makes a face, trying to remember what she's found in the general store. given that she goes there almost every day, she should know the specific aisle and shelf everything is located.
scrunching up her face, she playfully suggests, ] Do you think a chocolate bar might be pushing it? A sandwich, a chocolate bar, and maybe a slushy if we can find a machine.
no subject
( and he drinks blood on an almost daily basis. but otherwise, her menu for tonight doesn't sound too bad. he can't remember the last time he had a slushie but maybe today was the day to rectify that. )
You're going to be up all night, though.
( not that he minds. after everything, neither of them would probably sleep that much. )
