DAY 028
SOMETHING ON THE WIND
Another day dawns in the fair town of Mathias. The sky is a blanket of light grey, tiny specks of snow lightly falling as the hours pass. It makes the town feel almost quaint, the scenery quite peaceful in its winter garb. But beneath the veneer of peace there is a pervasive dread of something approaching. Something inevitable is on the wind, something that has come before and will come again...

Throughout the day, residents will consistently experience feelings of deja vu, that sense of having done or seen or said something before that can never be fully recalled. It happens again and again, tugging at the back of their minds, the memories just frustratingly out of reach.

Residents will also notice a note pinned around town:




The note can be found on the town hall's bulletin board and the front doors of many town establishments, including the Grey Gull, the library, and the boarding house. At the bottom of the note it is specified that the meeting will take place "tomorrow, when the sun is over the town square."


NEW ARRIVALs
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake on the frozen lawn of the town hall atop a snowdrift. They had best hurry inside and get warmed up before hypothermia sets in.

DAY 029
A GATHERING OF MINDS
In the late afternoon when the sun hangs over the town square, residents will converge upon the Town Hall, where a larger meeting room has been filled with rows of chairs. After most people arrive, John Constantine stands and addresses the room... and then sits again. A grand introduction, truly.

Residents are encouraged to share their experiences and information they have gathered in the town while holding questions until the end. Rather than getting tangled in the intricacies of each person's tale, it seems better to absorb the broad strokes and try to connect the puzzle pieces to get a look at the bigger picture that is the mystery of Mathias Township.


THE INEVITABLE
As the meeting comes to an end and residents begin to converse among themselves, the feeling of something approaching and sense of deja vu begin to build, becoming almost oppressive as night falls. An hour after nightfall, residents learn the reason for these sensations that cease immediately as the earth begins to rumble. The buildings shake, furniture tumbles, and breakables crash to the floor as the earthquake sets in without warning.

The tremors last around a minute, far longer than a normal earthquake, and then the town settles again. There are no aftershocks, which many may note is quite unusual. Residents will find quite a bit of mess in their homes and other locations around town, but there is no structural damage to be found despite the intense shaking.

CONDITIONS UPDATE

— THE WEATHER is fairly typical of a northern winter. The sky is grey, the temperature hovers just below freezing during the day (colder at night), and a light snow falls during both days. Residents should bundle up when going outside and not venture too far into the dark night...

— THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is ill-advised.

— DISAPPEARANCES continue with Sherlock Holmes being the latest victim of the town's unsettling whims.

OOC NOTES

— TOWN MEETING STRUCTURE The town meeting section of the log is designed for characters to share any information they would like to with the other residents in attendance. ICly, characters should "hold questions until the end" with the intent that they can get the Big Picture first and connect any dots they see. OOCly, this means players should post their character's information sharing tag in the Meeting section, but the actual conversation about whatever they share happens after the meeting proper in the Mingle section. That way, these conversations can happen however players prefer, be that one-on-one or in small or large groups.

— HOUSING Please be sure your character's housing arrangements are up to date on our list. We're missing a few people and it really helps to know where everyone is for planning. Frequent updates for wandering characters are perfectly acceptable.

— THE BULLETIN BOARD has been updated. Players should note there is a change to the wall near the board that may be of great interest to some residents.

( Dean did suspect. But, at the same time, he wondered if he was in too deep. Elijah might've just been staring at the funeral. Elijah made a mistake. People do. Thousand years make for a lot of discipline until it doesn't.

Dean waits for Elijah to finish a conversation before approaching. )

That was February sweeps-worthy. ( Vampires were always a sore subject for Dean. Werewolves, he had good examples for. Demons, even. Angels. But, vampires... But, this guy had come out. Like that sheriff at the law enforcement conference years back. Maybe he wants to be better. ) Accidents happen. I don't think we should be fighting one another. I think maybe that's one thing - whatever has us wants. To confuse us. Maybe make us turn. I won't. I don't want to.

( He'll be watching. Or, listening. He's not going to stalk you. You win points for telling everyone. He's not about to chastise him for Neal. Sounds like he and Neal have his mistake biting sewn up. )

It needed to happen.

( secrets like that could have been very, very costly and he doesn't want to be the one that causes rifts in a growing community.

he sighs, giving his head a shake. it's not exactly how he would have liked it to get out but it's the easiest way. everyone knows and if they have an issue with it, he's willing to hear it. )

What happened happened and I can't change that. I can only hope to change minds by helping out here. That is something I want to do.

( he wants out of here just like everyone else. )

You have nothing to worry about with me. But, I'm sure you'll worry anyway. In your own way.

( He lets Elijah say his piece. Telling him that he'd be watching him, or keeping tabs, would not help matters, nor would it be honest. So far, their threats have been environmental and psychological. Perhaps, otherworldly. )

Do you want me to say I'm keeping one eye on you?

You can say whatever you'd like.

( he's not going to stop any sort of reaction especially after that. he pauses, head tilted slightly. )

But even if you tell me you're not going to be watching me, I have a feeling you will be even if you don't realize it. That's your job, isn't it?

One of. Yeah, I'll keep track. Check on Neal. You two, you're good. If he's good -- ( For now, Dean is good. ) I've seen a good vampire before. But not many. Doesn't mean they're not out there.

( elijah hasn't always been good but that's not something he needs to share right now. it's not something he needs to share ever save for with close friends and family. )

I'd like to think Neal and I have talked about what happened and he knows what led to that happening.

( he appreciates you being good about that, dean. )

It won't happen again.

It's a fight, right. Every day.

( Bloodlust. )

Fight it.

( It's not his place to ask what happened. He's heard it before. It was too much. I made a mistake. I did it for my kid. I was a lure. He's heard it all. Except, he hasn't. Because he's here in Mathias Township. With more questions than answers and a vampire.

Yes, it is. And it's not always an easy fight but I've been alive for over a thousand years so it's one I'm familiar with.

( he was old. very old. old as dirt. )

But, I will, thank you. It was a slip and mistake. It won't happen again. I've made plans to prevent it from occurring again.

( He'd end the conversation here as he rubs his chin, but he can't let it go right then and there. )

Plans.

( He eyes him, but Elijah has proven honest, forthright, a public speaker of a thousand years, and diplomatic. )

Blood plans.

In a place like this where my usual sources of blood don't exist, I do have to make plans.

( and he has. )

To prevent another mistake from happening. Thus yes, I do have plans in place.

( he wasn't at katherine pierce levels of having plans upon plans but he could aspire to be that good. )

Long as they're consensual, buddy. I'm a feminist.

( Only Dean, Elijah. )

How lucky for me.

( his plans are consensual and have been since he arrived. he's just more focused on not wavering from that path now. )

You needn't worry. My plans are consensual and will not be noticeable to anyone but myself.

... Sure.

( And the other person. But, Dean's not about to try and pry. Elijah found himself some blood. Probably someone's blood. But they're offering, maybe for the good of the town. )

If it falls through, or you uh - you need more or whatever. Maybe we can all come up with something. Or. Rotate. Can't have your consensual solution becoming anemic.

If it comes to that, I'll be sure to say something. Right now, I think I should be fine.

( he and elena have made the arrangement and thus far, she's been very firm on sticking with it. )

But with things being out in the open now, there's room to change things.

That what comes from living over a thousand years? Flexibility?

( No offense, he'd say. He just has Cas as his example. Being eons old only made him more rigid until he broke away and discovered what it was really like to be human. Sometimes by being human himself. )

Flexibity and experience. I know what works for me and what doesn't.

( sometimes he was wrong, he can admit that. but in practices like procuring blood, he knows what he can and can't do to stay in control. )

That's one of the few things that comes from living over a thousand years.

Experience, I could see. You know how you like your coffee after a thousand years. Who you loved, who you wasted your time with. Do you replay crap, sometimes? Or, does it disappear? Over time, do you just forget a whole chunk of your life?

( Vampires always "remember," especially in TV. But, is memory like that? Not everyone is Dean and Sam Winchester who remember a case from fifteen years before. But not everyone rereads their dad's journal as often as they do. (Sam would admit to it, Dean wouldn't.) )

Some things you forget. That's just how it goes. I'm not going to remember what I had for breakfast one year or who I spoke with. But important things like who I loved and who I spent time with? I'll remember those.

( sometimes, he doesn't remember them fondly but he remembers. )

My memory is not eidetic but I try to remember things that had an impact on my life.

The good and the bad. I couldn't - I wouldn't want to be immortal. Life's supposed to begin and end. Which is a joke if you know me because Sam and I have come back to life more than once.

( He actually half laughs at that. )

I haven't known many...humans who've just been able to do that.

( in fact, he hasn't known any humans who could do that. he wonders if dean is truly all the way human or if there's something else there. )

This wasn't exactly my choice but it's what my life is so I make the best of it.

[cholesterol]

Life is making the best of it. Some people's. And we weren't able to just do that. But, we did it.

( Long stories. )

You know more than most that death isn't always permanent, Elijah.

I do.

( he's not surprised, he's just curious. )

Most of the time, when it happens where I'm from, it takes the intervention of a witch or other powerful entity, which I assume is what happened with you and your brother.

( though she has to wonder at the type of life he leads to have come back to life so many times. )

[cholesterol]

It takes a lot. Sold my soul and went to Hell. I was a vampire 24 hours. I was a demon for a summer. In our line of work - ( He tilts his head, considering that. ) Death has just never been permanent. It will be one day. It ends bloody. Always does.

And none of these...events have had any sort of after effects?

( and he doesn't mean just mental because he knows there have to be scars from that sort of things. but he wonders how a human body can take that and not retain something of being a vampire or a demon or whatever else dean might have been. )

I would think that would leave a mark or two.

[cholesterol]

Yeah, it leaves a mark.

( Inside. Returning took its' toll. Sam lost his soul, then the wall came down. Dean lived with his PTSD from Hell and the guilt from breaking the first seal. Having Michael in his mind took its' toll, too. Everything they out themselves through, each other, it left marks.

Lately, Dean's mark has been a deep anger he feels like he's shaken off. Like God was the one riling it up in the first place. )
