DAY 028
SOMETHING ON THE WIND
Another day dawns in the fair town of Mathias. The sky is a blanket of light grey, tiny specks of snow lightly falling as the hours pass. It makes the town feel almost quaint, the scenery quite peaceful in its winter garb. But beneath the veneer of peace there is a pervasive dread of something approaching. Something inevitable is on the wind, something that has come before and will come again...

Throughout the day, residents will consistently experience feelings of deja vu, that sense of having done or seen or said something before that can never be fully recalled. It happens again and again, tugging at the back of their minds, the memories just frustratingly out of reach.

Residents will also notice a note pinned around town:

The note can be found on the town hall's bulletin board and the front doors of many town establishments, including the Grey Gull, the library, and the boarding house. At the bottom of the note it is specified that the meeting will take place "tomorrow, when the sun is over the town square."

NEW ARRIVALs
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake on the frozen lawn of the town hall atop a snowdrift. They had best hurry inside and get warmed up before hypothermia sets in.

DAY 029
A GATHERING OF MINDS
In the late afternoon when the sun hangs over the town square, residents will converge upon the Town Hall, where a larger meeting room has been filled with rows of chairs. After most people arrive, John Constantine stands and addresses the room... and then sits again. A grand introduction, truly.

Residents are encouraged to share their experiences and information they have gathered in the town while holding questions until the end. Rather than getting tangled in the intricacies of each person's tale, it seems better to absorb the broad strokes and try to connect the puzzle pieces to get a look at the bigger picture that is the mystery of Mathias Township.

THE INEVITABLE
As the meeting comes to an end and residents begin to converse among themselves, the feeling of something approaching and sense of deja vu begin to build, becoming almost oppressive as night falls. An hour after nightfall, residents learn the reason for these sensations that cease immediately as the earth begins to rumble. The buildings shake, furniture tumbles, and breakables crash to the floor as the earthquake sets in without warning.

The tremors last around a minute, far longer than a normal earthquake, and then the town settles again. There are no aftershocks, which many may note is quite unusual. Residents will find quite a bit of mess in their homes and other locations around town, but there is no structural damage to be found despite the intense shaking.

CONDITIONS UPDATE
— THE WEATHER is fairly typical of a northern winter. The sky is grey, the temperature hovers just below freezing during the day (colder at night), and a light snow falls during both days. Residents should bundle up when going outside and not venture too far into the dark night...

— THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is ill-advised.

— DISAPPEARANCES continue with Sherlock Holmes being the latest victim of the town's unsettling whims.

OOC NOTES
— TOWN MEETING STRUCTURE The town meeting section of the log is designed for characters to share any information they would like to with the other residents in attendance. ICly, characters should "hold questions until the end" with the intent that they can get the Big Picture first and connect any dots they see. OOCly, this means players should post their character's information sharing tag in the Meeting section, but the actual conversation about whatever they share happens after the meeting proper in the Mingle section. That way, these conversations can happen however players prefer, be that one-on-one or in small or large groups.

— HOUSING Please be sure your character's housing arrangements are up to date on our list. We're missing a few people and it really helps to know where everyone is for planning. Frequent updates for wandering characters are perfectly acceptable.

— THE BULLETIN BOARD has been updated. Players should note there is a change to the wall near the board that may be of great interest to some residents.

[ Sam came with Dean to the meeting to hear what everyone had to say and maybe meet some of the residents. Sam knew that Dean could be... off-putting in the best of times and this well was kind of a shit show, so Sam wanted to get his own impressions.

He was hanging back, rotating between nodding at people and shoot small affectionate glares at his brother for calling him Big and Tall. ]

[ it's easy to spot the new people, especially when they're as tall and broad-shouldered as sam. elena's growing overwhelmed by being in the town hall with all the information swirling around in her head. she imagines it's even worse for someone who's just arrived.

with a notebook tucked against her chest, she quietly approaches him. with a small, friendly smile, ] Hi. I'd offer you something to eat, but this place comes up pretty short with meeting food.

[Sam looked up quickly from his place slouched against the wall. He straightened immediately, giving the mystery girl a half-smile. ]

That's okay. I ate at home... or at where I live now, which sounds so dumb since you know that otherwise why would you be here introducing yourself?

[He stops talking, rubbing a hand quickly down his face. ]

Sorry. Let's try again. Thank you for the offer but I already ate. I'm Sam Winchester... pleased to meet you...

[ He holds his hand out letting the sentence end in a question.]

[ if that hand's out in an offer of a handshake, elena will put her hand in his. she doesn't want him to feel uneasy.

he's like a foal trying to walk without tripping over. it's endearing to see someone who doesn't have their shit together in the town. too many people posture that everything's fine when it's not.

she smiles, amused. ]

Elena. [ her brow crinkles, ] Is it a funny coincidence that your surname is also Winchester or are you related to Dean?

[ look, winchester could be a very common surname like "jones." she's not going to assume. ]

[Sam, ever the gentleman does take her hand, mindful of his size and strength. He is slightly embarrassed, a light flush creeping up his neck.]

He's my much older brother. Did he ever tell you that he loves vegetables?

[Sam looks amused and proud of himself. He would never actively hurt Dean but was not above teasing him. ]

[ her brows lift up and she smiles, shaking her head. ]

No, he kept that a very big secret. That's good information to know.

[ and something she would've teased about jeremy, too. she finds herself relaxing in his presence. if he can tease his much older brother behind his back, she thinks he's good people. ]

Does he eat all his greens?

[This place and this day was quite possibly the worst way to be meeting new folks. He had had far too much to drink last night and he feels like a shadow of his usual sociable, friendly self. Still, can't fault Doc for trying.]

Smoke? [He shakes his pack of cigarettes in Sam's direction on his way out the door, intending to light one up and finish it outside. Not really his poison of choice, he's a cigarillo man, but they don't have many options here.]

[Sam's head hurt and everything that happened over the last few days. Sam still couldn't believe it had only been days. ]

Don't smoke, but I'd be glad to get out of here for a few... if you don't mind the company?

Of course. [It's a free town. Well, among them, at least. Doc slips out the door, holding it open for the young man to walk through before letting it go. He is mindful of where he stands with respect to where the wind is blowing after he lowers his head to light a smoke up. It's hard to be friendly with a face full of smoke.]

Gettin' too much information in there? [It can be overwhelming. Even if you're stone cold sober.]

Hey, big guy.

[Negan greets Sam with all the casualty he can muster up, tries not to let the whole dad thing make shit awkward. At least Dean assured him he warned this guy about a lookalike running around, so they can avoid that song and dance.]

How are you settling in?

[ Sam stared. He couldn't help it. Dean had mentioned the Dad clone but it was one thing to hear it and something completely different to actually see him in person.]

No wonder Dean mentioned you... This place takes some getting used to, doesn't it? How long have you been here?

Yeah, guess I'm pretty close to the guy, huh? In looks at least.

[There's an awkward shrug. Never not going to be weird to be mistaken for someone's dad.]

This place takes a lot of getting used to, but the folks here... they're not so bad. Think I arrived just before Dean did. How are you settling in?

[Dean had been helpful enough to point out his brother to the cowboy and once Raylan had made and said his thanks and let me know if you find anything interesting, he headed that way, chin lifting in greeting as he catches Sam's eye.]

You're the other Winchester huh? He said you were big and tall, but was short on the details. Wasn't kiddin' was he. Sam, right?

[Sam was still trying to get used to everything happening around him that he didn't notice Raylan at first but he got his full attention at his question]

Yeah well, Dean's a little short so his details usually follow suit.

[Is he snarky, hell yes. Is he annoyed at his brother? He likes to act like he is but Dean wouldn't be Dean if he didn't give Sam shit.]

But yeah, that's me... Nice to meet you. What do you think about all of this?

[Raylan smiled warmly. That was nice, brotherly love that didn't seem like it'd result in him needing to shoot one down a well. They were miles smarter than the smartest of the Bennet boys so it was a nice change of pace.

He nodded at the 'nice to meet you', a silent echo of a returned polite sentiment before glancing around.]

Oh this whole stolen away to someplace else by haunted fog thing? Weirdest, most unbelievable crap in my life, if I'm honest with you. Still pissed that they took my gun, so I might be a fraction bitter. [His head bobbed with the concession, smile quirking.]

I'm more curious as to what you think about all this.
