DAY 028
SOMETHING ON THE WIND
Another day dawns in the fair town of Mathias. The sky is a blanket of light grey, tiny specks of snow lightly falling as the hours pass. It makes the town feel almost quaint, the scenery quite peaceful in its winter garb. But beneath the veneer of peace there is a pervasive dread of something approaching. Something inevitable is on the wind, something that has come before and will come again...
Throughout the day, residents will consistently experience feelings of deja vu, that sense of having done or seen or said something before that can never be fully recalled. It happens again and again, tugging at the back of their minds, the memories just frustratingly out of reach.
Residents will also notice a note pinned around town:
The note can be found on the town hall's bulletin board and the front doors of many town establishments, including the Grey Gull, the library, and the boarding house. At the bottom of the note it is specified that the meeting will take place "tomorrow, when the sun is over the town square."NEW ARRIVALs
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake on the frozen lawn of the town hall atop a snowdrift. They had best hurry inside and get warmed up before hypothermia sets in.

DAY 029
A GATHERING OF MINDS
In the late afternoon when the sun hangs over the town square, residents will converge upon the Town Hall, where a larger meeting room has been filled with rows of chairs. After most people arrive, John Constantine stands and addresses the room... and then sits again. A grand introduction, truly.
Residents are encouraged to share their experiences and information they have gathered in the town while holding questions until the end. Rather than getting tangled in the intricacies of each person's tale, it seems better to absorb the broad strokes and try to connect the puzzle pieces to get a look at the bigger picture that is the mystery of Mathias Township.THE INEVITABLE
As the meeting comes to an end and residents begin to converse among themselves, the feeling of something approaching and sense of deja vu begin to build, becoming almost oppressive as night falls. An hour after nightfall, residents learn the reason for these sensations that cease immediately as the earth begins to rumble. The buildings shake, furniture tumbles, and breakables crash to the floor as the earthquake sets in without warning.
The tremors last around a minute, far longer than a normal earthquake, and then the town settles again. There are no aftershocks, which many may note is quite unusual. Residents will find quite a bit of mess in their homes and other locations around town, but there is no structural damage to be found despite the intense shaking.

CONDITIONS UPDATE — THE WEATHER is fairly typical of a northern winter. The sky is grey, the temperature hovers just below freezing during the day (colder at night), and a light snow falls during both days. Residents should bundle up when going outside and not venture too far into the dark night...
— THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is ill-advised.
— DISAPPEARANCES continue with Sherlock Holmes being the latest victim of the town's unsettling whims.OOC NOTES — TOWN MEETING STRUCTURE The town meeting section of the log is designed for characters to share any information they would like to with the other residents in attendance. ICly, characters should "hold questions until the end" with the intent that they can get the Big Picture first and connect any dots they see. OOCly, this means players should post their character's information sharing tag in the Meeting section, but the actual conversation about whatever they share happens after the meeting proper in the Mingle section. That way, these conversations can happen however players prefer, be that one-on-one or in small or large groups.
— HOUSING Please be sure your character's housing arrangements are up to date on our list. We're missing a few people and it really helps to know where everyone is for planning. Frequent updates for wandering characters are perfectly acceptable.
— THE BULLETIN BOARD has been updated. Players should note there is a change to the wall near the board that may be of great interest to some residents.

The response comes on instict, even before Claire's eyes snap to the person she talked to. The face is unfamiliar, but then Claire's been holed up for a while now. She takes automatic stock of the cane and the scarring around the woman's eyes, though - it's not the type of gawking from a disturbed civilian. Claire's just used to assessing people by now.
"How'd you like our little AA gathering here?"
no subject
"You had quite a lot to get through, you must be one of the longer-standing lot in the bunch, yeah?" That's good, she'll know more than some of the newer folks. "Lot of the things all of you were talking about hit so many warning buttons for shit I was dealing with at home, there's several things I want to touch on with you, but let's start with that door, and the spiral-- can you trace it for me?" She holds out her hand, palm up. It may not be the most perfect system, but it's the best she's got. She wasn't always blind after all, she can picture the image in her mind even if she can't physically see it. "Was there anything significant about it? Sharp edges, jagged lines, anything like that?"
no subject
"Yeah, been among the first bunch to get washed up on the beach. It's been.... hm. I don't know, probably around a month now?"
She's not actively thought about that yet. With everything happening... fuck, it doesn't feel like it could have been that long.
"Yeah, hold on, lemme just..."
The rustling of paper as Claire plucks the certificate of baptism from the notebook to have the visual reference.
"You know, total dick move to hold it up like that during the meeting, in hindsight. Had no idea we had someone here who can't see."
Her fingertip traces the spiral on Melanie's palm precisely and carefully.
"Fucked up place here. You know about the fog? Make sure you don't wander places without letting someone check the fog situation, yeah? Not saying you're helpful, just... the fog has shifted, sometimes, wouldn't want you wandering into it unawares... there you go. That's the spiral. No jagged lines or sharp edges, really."
no subject
A smile touches her lips as she focuses on the feeling of her fingertip against her palm. So weird, operating almost entirely on touch, it puts so many things in such a different perspective now. "I think Eliot mentioned it. He and his-- I actually don't know what they are. Friends, I guess. Anyway, Eliot and Quinten live next door, they're good to help out if I need it and all that." She hates needing it, but it's really just a fact of her life at this point. "Thanks."
no subject
She should really check if Cas' angel radio is on in this place. If he can hear prayers to be aware when someone needs help. She's... not dared try yet.
"Yeah, every two or three days people tend to show up. Or... disappear."
no subject
"Disappear? Just like that? No warning, no nothing."
no subject
Claire's not quite ready to embark down the whole 'His full name is Castiel and he's an angel of the lord possessing the body of my father, who is dead' lane just yet, so 'Cas' must suffice for now.
"Well... sometimes there's a corpse. Sometimes they're just... gone, and then they show back up again."

[ John steps up behind Claire with a smile on his face. His hands are in his pockets, trenchcoat over on the table. Cigarette behind his ear. Really, it's his normal look, and everyone should more or less know that by now. ]
no subject
[ She flips him off, but grins as she does it and turns around. Her death and the subsequent shock and trauma held her mind in quite a state for a while there. And now... well. Now she's at least in a state where she can pretend to be in better spirits. ]
no subject
[ John gives her a playful sneer, before dipping his accent into a Southern one. ]
Now, how about this, ma'am? I reckon this might be a bit easier for you Americans.
[ He leans forward and nods to that raised finger. ] People might think you're offerin', ma'am.
no subject
You're welcome, world. ]
Well, pip chip and cheerio, gov'ner, you passed the bloody mangling on to me!
no subject
Now, ma'am, no one really says pip chip cheerio anymore.

[ Mathias has never seen horrors the likes of which these two are currently unleashing. If anyone needed a creative way to summon ancient evils... surely, this is it. ]

[ He just grins at her again before raising a hand and wrapping it around her shoulders. It's a quick hug. He would of thought she disappeared and died on them if it hadn't been for seeing her in the mansion.
Oh, he's sure Feathers' little protection sensors are going off at someone mucking about with Claire. ]

And closer.
Until he can pretend that standing around awkwardly next to her was maybe-kind of not on purpose.]
Hey?
[The look on his face is almost hungry. Eyes darting down to her notebook ever so often, before coming back up.]
no subject
[ She looks over at him, fighting to keep her expression neutral. There's a glint in her eyes though. Oh, she sees the way his glance is darting to her notebook. ]
You know, I hear at actual AA meetings they serve coffee. Should be on the agenda for next time if you ask me.
[ Casual small talk, as if she's not noticing his interest in the notebook. And maybe her lips tug up on that a little. ]
no subject
[Why? Does he look like he should be in AA, and Quentin looks down at his clothes. Which, yes, are not all that stylish? But they're clean and since Eliot decided to drink anything remotely alcohol related, Quentin is even sober for this.
What a day.
Quentin clears his throat and shrugs.]
The note did say to bring your own snacks, so maybe whoever wrote it, thought we'd bring it. If we, you know, wanted it. I have a sandwich?
[It's a sad-looking thing, the slices of bread mushed too hard around the meat in the middle. Which is starting to curl at the edges.]
I'm Quentin.
no subject
Claire. I'd shake your hand, but...
[ She gestures briefly with her right, still bandaged with some spots of blood on it. ]
Lost a fight with a mirror. You looked interested in this?
[ With her other hand, Claire holds up the notebook, cocking an eyebrow in question. ]
How did I miss this?!?!
[It's the first tangible thing in this whole place that might be worth looking in to. Notes! Quentin smiles at down at it, hands flexing at his sides.]
If I could just borrow it, for like- an hour? Two at the most?
All good <3
You wanna copy my notes? How very High School of you.
[ She grins, friendly enough. ]
Re: All good <3
Uh, what? I- you-- no? Yes?
[Was there even a right answer to this? Yes, I want to copy your notes like this is High School or no, because this is a lot more important than advanced math? Quentin's fingers flex and he clears his throat.]
You just seem to have... really good ones, and really, what good are good ones if they're not even being used? Right? That's-uh- a thing that should happen.
and then *I* took ages
And then me again!

the thing is, maybe it was habit, maybe it was the go at it alone attitude that was difficult to shake.
but really, he didn't need to regurgitate everything that was already said. that was a waste of time. nor was anyone here for a lecture on quantum and relative theory.
still, he beelines for claire. ] No snacks, [ he sounds disappointed. ] I'm never trusting Constantine again.
I'M SORRY this took so long for me to get back to ugh
Claire throws the old man a wry smile, hard blue eyes softening. Her usually extra defensive posturing relaxes a little, too. ]
What, you ever trusted Potter? Shame on you, old man. And here I thought you were the kind of grumpy that doesn't play nice with anyone.
[ She grins, though. ]
Really, I'd kill for some junk food at this point.
