Doc's already figured out that he can't simply just take things and bring them around - not out of the rooms, not even within the rooms. So he's opted for the next best sensible thing, which is to bury the novel under some other ordinary-looking objects, make it difficult to find.

If he were a cruel man he would have liked to keep Negan in this kind of suspense a little while longer. At one point in time he likely was a cruel man. Right now he's just-- a little angry. But more disappointed than anything else. And tired, of course. Always tired.

He wanders out wordlessly towards the other room, expecting Negan to follow without being beckoned or asked to. Doc lifts a table lamp and moves a haphazard stack of withered old papers delicately aside to reveal the copy of Pride and Prejudice, hidden under the mess, which he is not willingly going to touch again.

"I do not want you to explain anything," he says quietly before Negan even gets his hands on it, refusing to meet the other man in the eyes. "But I would prefer if you take this book and leave." The 'not return to 1306' part is implied. As is the 'if you talk to Wynonna again I will kill you with a butter knife' part.
