DAY 028
SOMETHING ON THE WIND

Another day dawns in the fair town of Mathias. The sky is a blanket of light grey, tiny specks of snow lightly falling as the hours pass. It makes the town feel almost quaint, the scenery quite peaceful in its winter garb. But beneath the veneer of peace there is a pervasive dread of something approaching. Something inevitable is on the wind, something that has come before and will come again...

Throughout the day, residents will consistently experience feelings of deja vu, that sense of having done or seen or said something before that can never be fully recalled. It happens again and again, tugging at the back of their minds, the memories just frustratingly out of reach.

Residents will also notice a note pinned around town:

The note can be found on the town hall's bulletin board and the front doors of many town establishments, including the Grey Gull, the library, and the boarding house. At the bottom of the note it is specified that the meeting will take place "tomorrow, when the sun is over the town square."

NEW ARRIVALs

The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake on the frozen lawn of the town hall atop a snowdrift. They had best hurry inside and get warmed up before hypothermia sets in.

DAY 029
A GATHERING OF MINDS

In the late afternoon when the sun hangs over the town square, residents will converge upon the Town Hall, where a larger meeting room has been filled with rows of chairs. After most people arrive, John Constantine stands and addresses the room... and then sits again. A grand introduction, truly.

Residents are encouraged to share their experiences and information they have gathered in the town while holding questions until the end. Rather than getting tangled in the intricacies of each person's tale, it seems better to absorb the broad strokes and try to connect the puzzle pieces to get a look at the bigger picture that is the mystery of Mathias Township.

THE INEVITABLE

As the meeting comes to an end and residents begin to converse among themselves, the feeling of something approaching and sense of deja vu begin to build, becoming almost oppressive as night falls. An hour after nightfall, residents learn the reason for these sensations that cease immediately as the earth begins to rumble. The buildings shake, furniture tumbles, and breakables crash to the floor as the earthquake sets in without warning.

The tremors last around a minute, far longer than a normal earthquake, and then the town settles again. There are no aftershocks, which many may note is quite unusual. Residents will find quite a bit of mess in their homes and other locations around town, but there is no structural damage to be found despite the intense shaking.

CONDITIONS UPDATE
THE WEATHER is fairly typical of a northern winter. The sky is grey, the temperature hovers just below freezing during the day (colder at night), and a light snow falls during both days. Residents should bundle up when going outside and not venture too far into the dark night...

THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is ill-advised.

DISAPPEARANCES continue with Sherlock Holmes being the latest victim of the town's unsettling whims.

OOC NOTES
TOWN MEETING STRUCTURE The town meeting section of the log is designed for characters to share any information they would like to with the other residents in attendance. ICly, characters should "hold questions until the end" with the intent that they can get the Big Picture first and connect any dots they see. OOCly, this means players should post their character's information sharing tag in the Meeting section, but the actual conversation about whatever they share happens after the meeting proper in the Mingle section. That way, these conversations can happen however players prefer, be that one-on-one or in small or large groups.

HOUSING Please be sure your character's housing arrangements are up to date on our list. We're missing a few people and it really helps to know where everyone is for planning. Frequent updates for wandering characters are perfectly acceptable.

THE BULLETIN BOARD has been updated. Players should note there is a change to the wall near the board that may be of great interest to some residents.

Raylan chuckled. "I'm not entirely sure our dinner conversation was normal but I get ya." It was close enough, goddamnit.

"You not have a lotta that back at home? Lotta running? Hell, I'm happy he was even able to find the goods for it. We might have more foodstuff types than we think. So long as it keeps replicating."

"Yeah, well, not sure how many normal guys we had at the dinner table." So he's probably got a point actually...

"Food gets real scarce a lot. Better now than it was, now that we've found other groups. We can trade shit, best we can. We even found a place to live." For now, anyway.

"I almost feel like we shouldn't be jinxing it, just in case it ever stops."
tinstar: (porch how do u mean)

"Doubt that's gonna change any time soon so it's better we enjoy it, right?" He was not here to harsh on any buzzes.. Well, at least until a law worth cracking down on was broken. The need of law enforcement was different in places like this. Custom.

"What, us or back home," he chuffed, rhetorically as he flipped the pancake once more for good measure and stacked it on with the others, turning his burner off and ignoring the fact that he was shoulder to shoulder with someone he only just knew cooking breakfast for a house of people that were fast becoming his people.

It wasn't bad.

"I keep tellin' Doc Henry there to stop invitin' trouble, maybe I oughta take my own advice. Safe places to live in that kind of demand? I've.. gotten the jist of the story, somethin' happened and y'all have the undead or the reanimated or infected. It global? Can't imagine an infection type like that wouldn't be but.." Crazy shit happened in a lot of places that wasn't his world, apparently.

"Here. I mean, the crazy shit this place pulls? We shouldn't get too comfortable with anything." Replicating food, the stock at the general store. Who knows how long that's gonna last? He doesn't want to be paranoid, but...

Well, it's hard not to be.

"The shit that happened back where I'm from? Mm, it was global, yeah. Far as I know anyway. We aren't exactly connected to anyone overseas anymore." But it had to have spread. Couldn't have been contained.

"Of course, we don't even know what the hell started it or anything."
tinstar: (What about u)

"You ain't wrong. A lot of the this place feels.. arbitrary, to say the least." The lack of cars, weapons, guns, bats or liquor and that was only just to start. No, Negan was smart to doubt it, to keep an eye on it.

"That mean no answers as to why you got people like you, who've missed gettin' infected?" Raylan shook his head. It was a lot. More than he "What'd you do before the outbreak then? What kinda life were you livin' before it all got thrown to shit?"

That was a relatively safe question, right? Raylan didn't imagine watching the world change around you in such a drastic way was an easy thing, so he wasn't going to go there. Better to hedge his bets in the Before Time.

He's quiet for a moment, his expression a little more pensive than he'd like. "I just know that when people die back home, no matter what it's from, you come back as one of those fucking things. But don't worry, I'm not contagious. It doesn't work like that." He thinks. He hopes. Shit... that'd be bad.

"I was a coach at the school. I was the cool teacher. All the kids loved me, even if I pushed'em hard. Parents-- well, not so much." He snorts.

"Thought I was too loud, too fucking rude. Now can you imagine that?" There's a playful glint to his eyes as he looks back towards Raylan.
tinstar: (breaking my neck to see your point)

[personal profile] tinstar 2021-02-12 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason, Raylan trusted the 'no matter what'. Humans had a tendency to cover the possibilities when it came to creative ways to die. He nodded at the reassurance, and thought back to his last conversation about this. People getting taken out to the woods to get 'taken care of'.

Wasn't going to happen, unless there was no other choice.

"A coach?" That was. Not What he was expecting. He huffed a breath and cracked a short aborted laugh before shaking his head. "Oh, I woulda loved to see you at some PTA meetin' talkin' about what the kids should be doin' to prep for the Presidential Fitness test."

"Shit, you know how many parents wanted to kick my ass or get me fired? They didn't want to believe their little Timmy or Johnny said shit even I wouldn't dream of saying, so I was the guy to blame for it." He's fine going back to the coach shit if Raylan is comfortable enough to drop the contagion topic... Negan doesn't want someone deciding to put him out of his misery, just in case.

Not that he wouldn't take a gun to his own head if he thought he was spreading shit around here, but that's for him to do.

"But I kinda loved the job. The kids were good."
tinstar: (Aint nothin)

[personal profile] tinstar 2021-02-14 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Raylan was happy enough to leave the horrors of Negan's world for a night where it was maybe a little more tolerable to think about but they'd all collectively had a good night and he wasn't looking to put a cloud over the morning already. There was plenty of time for that.

"I never understood parents like that. Havin' gone through school themselves. Kids are savage. Sometimes that doesn't change when they grow up, either. Lookin' back at some of the people I went to school with, I am not surprised at where they ended up in life." Then he realized just how dark that still was.

"But I'm sure that's not the case with your kids. What level school did you work?"
