CONSEQUENCES

When the unwilling residents of Mathias Township wake on the morning of the 24th day, they will find themselves in yet another set of frustratingly unnerving circumstances. None of them are where they last remember being, and some of them have strange marks on the palms of their left hands. It's all incredibly unsettling, but truthfully they should be used to it by now. No one will remember traveling to their new location.

Residents can wake up anywhere within their new location and in any position. Curled up in a bed, sprawled on a couch, huddled beneath a coffee table, propped against a wall... Wherever they are, they will themselves to be in quite an unusual state. While they are wearing whatever clothing items they went to sleep in, plus their shoes and a coat. The newest arrivals to Mathias Township will perhaps stand out for being slightly more appropriately dressed than their new neighbors. They are all a bit damp, physically worn out, and half-frozen from their apparent walk through a blizzard.

Each of the four locations is inescapable — residents are trapped, with exterior doors and windows being shut tight and a blizzard raging outside. The locations are stocked with fresh food and water and a large pile of firewood for the fireplaces in each building. The circumstances residents will face, however, may vary wildly between locations as the forces at work in Mathias respond to the recent actions of certain individuals.

These residents will wake with a mark on their left hand palms, a spiraling black symbol similar to those some may have seen around town. All marks are identical and cannot be removed, but will have seemingly vanished from their skin on the morning of the 26th day.

DAYS 026-027
IN THE AFTERMATH
After their ordeals of the past two days, the unfortunate residents of Mathias Township will be grateful to find that they were back where they are supposed to be, a chill still clinging to their clothes in whatever place they went to sleep the night of the 23rd day. New arrivals will wake in the living room of the boarding house. None of the residents will wake with anything in their possession from the locations in which they were previously trapped, including any notes or documentation they may have made during their time there.

CONDITIONS UPDATE

— SNOW continues to fall heavily on Days 024-025, resulting in white out conditions from the wind that blows in gusts of over 35 mph; the temperature also drops drastically, making conditions extremely dangerous for residents. The blizzard clears on Day 26 and residents are left with a cold, calm world covered in white.

— THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is... ill-advised.

— DISAPPEARANCES continue to plague the town. Kylo Ren and Thomas Richardson have vanished without a trace.

— NO NEW DEATHS have occurred in town, but there is a new "grave" in the small makeshift graveyard near the schoolhouse. Rey's corpse has been moved and covered with stones to wait for the ground to thaw enough for a proper burial.

— THE LANTERNS will be gone from the morning of Day 024. No trace of them remains.

"Poking holes in each other's theories is the way we'll figure out which theory doesn't have any holes in it," Malcolm said cheerfully. Only part of his cheer had to do with poking the mystery, though he did love that Raylan had brained out a missing piece.

He put more hot water on his herbal tea.

"Try the apple; I want to know if it's as good as it smells."

"I welcome it," he assured. Poking holes was a good thing, it led to better results. Something more on the mark, closer to what they needed it to be. It didn't hurt that Malcolm approved of his brainpower.

With a nod, Raylan cut into the apple and got a piece onto his fork, eyeing it briefly before popping it in his mouth. His brow pinched a little as he chewed and swallowed and he bobbed his head in indecision. "It's not bad. Textures a little new but it's like.. unsweetened applesauce once you starting eatin' it. Not bad," he reiterated with a nod. "He's luck to have found apples - we could all use a little more fruit, probably."

Malcolm smiled.

"Neal likes cooking. I think it calms his nerves."

He leaned on the counter, folding his arms in front of him.

"Maybe we should track these... times that we get displaced. Who and where and how long. Maybe in time, a pattern will emerge."

"He'll have to cook for us one night then," Raylan suggested with a faint lift of his smile as he cut off another piece and ate it, chasing it down with a swig of his coffee. Raylan didn't realize that it would end up being that night, but that only meant that things worked out more nicely than expected.

"We should. Write 'em down or something. Just in case John Constantine isn't. A note's book for 1306 specifically. I don't doubt that this will happen again. Probably more than a couple of times. Somethin's playin' with us... Wish we had shortwave radios or somethin'. Walky-talkies."

"It's probably too much to hope that the library or bookstore would have books on how to build one," Malcolm conceded. "It's rudimentary technology, but seeing as they went to the trouble of not including a single bladed implement, I feel like they won't have overlooked that. I'll look anyway. But one thing I do have is notebooks I grabbed a few when I went through the school with Negan."

"Maybe. But it's worth the look," he agreed. He agreed, doubting this place had left them much of anything useful and what it did was likely for a direct purpose. Possibly directly to their disadvantage, even if that disadvantage came by way of terrible accident.

"Can you spare one for the house? You find anythin' interestin' in the school? Any.. holes in what they're offerin' in education?"

"Superficially... it seemed right. There were school supplies and books and little desks." He shrugged a shoulder. "I was a little distracted in there. I was talking to Negan about the apocalypse he survived. I look like someone he knows. He said I cut my hair too short."

Raylan nodded a little.

"I'll have to go have a look for myself... Yeah, he mentioned somethin' similar to me. More end of world, more infection.." Raylan looked into his cup and swirled it a little before he continued. "I didn't ask for many details." He let a beat pass, eyes coming back up to study Malcolm. "You'd look alright with long hair. Was the recognition good or bad?"

Malcolm laughed lightly.

"He didn't attack me. Seemed more surprised than anything." He picked up a steel pot and turned it around, looking at his reflection. "You think?" he asked about his hair. He'd worn his hair basically the same length all his life.

"Well that's something." Something good - at least Raylan wouldn't have to worry about that. "We're all gonna have to worry about it sooner or later. Maybe you don't. You ever worn it different?"

He laughed.

"I never have. That's weird, right?" he confirmed, looking over at Raylan good-naturedly.

[tinstar]

He shrugged with a curl of his smile. "Not really, no. It'd be weird if you wore the same outfit each day like Steve Jobs did but.. Not for your hair. You know it looks good and you work with it. No shame in that."

“Well, it’s pretty thick and it’s got a wave to it, so it gets out of hand left to its own devices,” he noted. “Though staying in this town... long may not be an option, eventually.”

"If they've got razors, I'm sure we could manage something, but it probably wouldn't look as good as growing it out from where it was. We're all gonna look like hippies without jobs inside two months. Well, maybe not as fabulous as Klaus, but I'm sure we'll try," he said with grin.

Malcolm moved closer.

"I bet I could cut your hair nicely," he said. "Pair of scissors... just a little trim." He slid his fingers into just the ends of Raylan's hair, gently pulling them out of their curl for a moment, then letting it fall back to its natural place. "When it gets long enough."

Clearly it was going to be dangerous to be left alone with Malcolm. Raylan's heartrate skipped and jumped as Malcolm reached out and played with his hair, lips curling along the edges as his free itched to wrap around the smaller man and draw him back in.

Shit. It felt like, if he hadn't turned into a deviant, he was just desperate, to not be able to more easily quell the need, the want. But there was no argument to the touching, just his hazel eyes shifting a shade darker for the touch.

"I'll let you. If you find some scissors. Do whatever you want. It all grows back, anyway. 'Sides, you've paid more for better haircuts than I ever will, I'm sure you know what one looks like." He was lucky he had hat on, otherwise, he'd start raking his fingers through it.

Malcolm smiled up at him.

“That’s real trust,” he teased. “I promise I’ll make it look good.”

He watched Raylan’s face for a moment, seeing something there but not completely sure what to make of it.

“When it’s a little bit longer.”

[tinstar]

Raylan grinned. It was trust but also - "You can't mess it up too badly, and even if you do, we can cut it all off and let it regrow."

He was not terribly fussy about his hair.

"Give it another two weeks and it'll start curlin' out properly. That's about when I normally get it cut anyway." No offense to people like Klaus but Raylan knew he didn't look great with long hair. It just didn't suit him. "That a special offer just for me or do we need to start lookin' into a barber shop for you?"

"Maybe I'll like it when it's curly and unruly," he teased.

At the question, he laughed. "Well, there is a salon in town, but I think I'd have to be more bored and less prone to psychosis," he admitted. Raylan would let him do it when he was feeling level. Going there for set hours for people... he wasn't up to that. "Anyone in 1306 can get this deal, though," he said with a grin.

He bobbed his head in response. "Until I start looking like a little league coach that gets sideeyed by all the moms for all the wrong reasons. Though I suppose since we don't have any minors here, it'd be hard to call me a pervert.."

And while he didn't stop the jokes that were tossed at and past him, he wasn't looking to add anymore to the roster, if he could help it.

"I gotta wonder when Doc is gonna get annoyed with his. It's more than long enough to braid. I know he knows how to, so that's a choice." A good looking choice too, in his opinion. But Choice and Option were largely interchangeable in the statement.

"I think people wore it longer in his time, but he might want a trim at some point. Can't cut it too short or his moustache will look out of place," Malcolm remarked.

[tinstar]

"I wonder how he's gonna do that. Razors we've got. Clippers and scissors, we don't."

They'd gotten a bit off track.

"I'm guessin' since Negan is here, you're okay with him too then. Not expectin' any trouble for sharing some features with someone he knows?"

[abrightboy]

"No, I'm not expecting problems. He's been really nice, actually. He really helped me out when I lost it at the boarding house," Malcolm admitted with a small smile. "And didn't treat me like an unstable lunatic afterwards."

[tinstar]

"Not one of the shitty terrible ones then huh? Suppose it makes sense he land here," Raylan agreed with a nod of approval. The best way to gain credit with the 1306 was defending and protecting Malcolm and Neal.

"I'll find some sheets and some other bedding today for the mattress we've got in your room, just in case we need them." Or for appearances. Whatever worked. "That way everyone is comfortable."

[abrightboy]

Malcolm smiled sweetly at him.

"Are you sure you guys are going to be comfortable down there?"

He meant one at a time, when it was their turn.

"I don't even know if I snore. Nobody's ever slept near me."
