DAYS 024-025
CONSEQUENCES“There are in nature neither rewards nor punishments —
there are consequences.”
— Robert G. Ingersoll
When the unwilling residents of Mathias Township wake on the morning of the 24th day, they will find themselves in yet another set of frustratingly unnerving circumstances. None of them are where they last remember being, and some of them have strange marks on the palms of their left hands. It's all incredibly unsettling, but truthfully they should be used to it by now. No one will remember traveling to their new location.
Residents can wake up anywhere within their new location and in any position. Curled up in a bed, sprawled on a couch, huddled beneath a coffee table, propped against a wall... Wherever they are, they will themselves to be in quite an unusual state. While they are wearing whatever clothing items they went to sleep in, plus their shoes and a coat. The newest arrivals to Mathias Township will perhaps stand out for being slightly more appropriately dressed than their new neighbors. They are all a bit damp, physically worn out, and half-frozen from their apparent walk through a blizzard.
Each of the four locations is inescapable — residents are trapped, with exterior doors and windows being shut tight and a blizzard raging outside. The locations are stocked with fresh food and water and a large pile of firewood for the fireplaces in each building. The circumstances residents will face, however, may vary wildly between locations as the forces at work in Mathias respond to the recent actions of certain individuals.
BOARDING HOUSE | GREY GULL
NEW HOUSE | MYSTERY MANSION
These residents will wake with a mark on their left hand palms, a spiraling black symbol similar to those some may have seen around town. All marks are identical and cannot be removed, but will have seemingly vanished from their skin on the morning of the 26th day.Castiel, Daisy Johnson, Dean Winchester
Elena Gilbert, Elijah Mikaelson, Helen Magnus
Phil Coulson, Quentin Coldwater, Sherlock HolmesDAYS 026-027
IN THE AFTERMATH
After their ordeals of the past two days, the unfortunate residents of Mathias Township will be grateful to find that they were back where they are supposed to be, a chill still clinging to their clothes in whatever place they went to sleep the night of the 23rd day. New arrivals will wake in the living room of the boarding house. None of the residents will wake with anything in their possession from the locations in which they were previously trapped, including any notes or documentation they may have made during their time there.
CONDITIONS UPDATE — SNOW continues to fall heavily on Days 024-025, resulting in white out conditions from the wind that blows in gusts of over 35 mph; the temperature also drops drastically, making conditions extremely dangerous for residents. The blizzard clears on Day 26 and residents are left with a cold, calm world covered in white.
— THE FOG remains blocking the paths in the forest, urging residents to stay huddled within the town proper, and it also now blocks the northern section of town, beginning just before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be. Venturing into the fog is... ill-advised.
— DISAPPEARANCES continue to plague the town. Kylo Ren and Thomas Richardson have vanished without a trace.
— NO NEW DEATHS have occurred in town, but there is a new "grave" in the small makeshift graveyard near the schoolhouse. Rey's corpse has been moved and covered with stones to wait for the ground to thaw enough for a proper burial.
— THE LANTERNS will be gone from the morning of Day 024. No trace of them remains.OOC UPDATES — A GIFT for everyone! As a thank you for being part of this spooky little game, every character in the game is being gifted 2 Activity Points. These may be banked over here — instead of linking to an AC post, you may put "New Year gift" in that field. Happy 2021, friends!
— NEW LAYOUTS have been installed for our communities! Huge thanks to our Eldritch Librarian Stars for putting in the time to get this place looking shiny. (You may have also noticed some new page layouts being installed — these are also our Librarian's handiwork!)
— DISCOVERIES have been collected and collated for your review. Please note that this is OOC information only, put together for the purpose of helping you as players see connections and possibilities for CR and your own character's potential avenues of exploration and investigation. (If we are missing something, please report it so we can add it to the list.)
— REMINDERS — Don't forget about the bulletin board. Please continue reporting your updates to locations, plots, and discoveries. The map of Mathias has been added to the locations page for ease of reference. Make sure your character's sanity level is kept updated. Prospective players are still joining the TDM, so it's recommended to track new top-levels so you don't miss them.navigation | faq | setting | mod contact
➼ day 024
[ Eliot is vaguely aware of the comfort of the bed as he wakes up. It's not that the bed he has at Stoker Park is bad, but it's definitely not as comfortable as this, and for a moment he hums happily and stretches out. He's in the process of pulling the luxurious comforter up around him when his eyes snap open.
This is not the right place.
For a brief (hopeful) moment, he thinks he's back in Whitespire, and that Sebastian or Margo will be there waiting for him. The hope fades as quick as it arrived. Still not home. Still in Mathias, maybe, but it's hard to see anything beyond the blur of blinding white out the window. Well, he thinks, if he has to be stuck here, this room is much more his speed.
Getting out of bed, Eliot's feet hit the cold floor. He looks through the drawers and sees no clothes, but his shoes are, at least there, so he slips them on and ties his robe closed. Loungewear chic, he guesses, as he looks in the mirror to fix his hair before leaving the room. ]
Quentin?
[ His voice resonates a little in the hall. Eliot pauses for a moment and thinks he hears someone downstairs. So that's where he goes, but the doors strike a familiar chord with him that he can't place. Not yet, anyway. ]
Anyone here?
[ Eliot sees himself into the kitchen. A little bit of rummaging comes up with something that makes him nearly cry. ] Oh thank God - [ He opens one of the bottles and, after a cursory smell, takes a long drink from it. ]
➼ free time for memories, places i'll never be
[ Now that Eliot's found the alcohol, he's more relaxed than he might have been otherwise. Sure, he's still stuck in his pajama pants and a robe, but it could be worse. Right? As long as he's got a glass in his hand and the glass isn't empty, he's willing to play along with whatever Mathias is up to currently.
He's found himself in the smaller of the two sitting rooms now that he's had a look around the mansion proper (and poked into the rooms that are open). The wall display has his attention. All the keys, and the maps that doesn't make any sense, all things considered. Eliot takes a sip of his drink, brows furrowed. ]
Do you think these were like ... Original plans for the town that they scrapped?
➼ locked doors (closed to Five)
[ Eliot isn't sure why he keeps going back to the locked doors. Maybe it's because he's finally figured out why they look familiar. The hall might be different, but the doors are almost eerily alike the ones he walked through before he found the room full of blood in his dreams. Maybe it's just the morbid curiosity in him that wants to see if he can find that place again.
Between some food and drinks and pouring over the maps, Eliot's made his way around the locked doors. His tried and true lock picking spell does shit all (and, no, he's not really surprised), and oddly enough, aggressively jiggling the door handles aggressively doesn't do anything, either. So it's with great frustration that he retreats back to the small sitting room - and gets an idea.
Sorry not sorry to whoever put all the effort in making the lovely display, but Eliot starts to take the skeleton keys down from the wall. He figures worst case scenario, it opens absolutely nothing here and then he's not really worse off than he started, right? ]
free time for memories.
[ John is leaning against the desk in the room. He has alcohol at his hand and blearily looks at the keys and maps. Honestly, he's not really looking either. It's more like casual gazing with a heavy amount of apathy. ]
no subject
[ It seems like the alcohol is flowing pretty freely among the occupants of the mansion. It's enough to make Eliot not think too much about where everyone else, and enough to make him feel curious and questioning without being bored first.
He frowns a bit at the maps. He wishes Benedict, his map maker, was here. Benedict would figure this out so fast. ]
Why would they change so much? I mean, I get progress, but this is a bit extreme.
no subject
[ He gives a grin and tips the bottle towards him. ]
Maybe they wanted to match the times of the outside world.
no subject
[ Eliot snorts, and takes a generous drink from his glass, nearly emptying it. He wanders closer to the maps to look at them better. ]
What if they keep levelling the town and building on top of it?
no subject
[ John looks at the maps. ]
That's a thought.
no subject
Maybe that's what keeps happening to all the people. They get rid of them, they demolish all traces of it, and then they try to rebuild it better. Somehow. Or maybe this place is turning us all into conspiracy theorists.
no subject
no subject
[ After all, what is a conspiracy theorist but a glorified nut job, right? ]
I wonder if the lodge is somewhere on one of these.
no subject
Could be. Only one way to find out.
no subject
[ But John's right. The only way to find out is to look, and Eliot wonders if the maps are mounted up in a way that makes them easy to take off the wall.
He reaches to take one down."
locked doors! so sorry for the delay!
and, at its core, being dumped into a big house meant one single thing: opportunity. houses like this had a lot of places to hide anyone's secrets - and that's something five knew of first hand.
he can't sit still for long, and takes off into poking the proverbial shadows of this house while the storm continues outside. predictably, too many doors remain shut, and the first time he tries to shove himself in there with his powers, he gets sent back with a frustrating way of exhaustion.
the jingle of keys is what attracts his attention, and there's a pop of spacetime as he blinks closer to the sound, coming up to the threshold of the room where Eliot picks at the keys. with casual curiosity: ] Do you think its going to be that simple?
no subject
[ If there's one thing Eliot's come to count on in life, far before Mathias ever made its appearance, it's that nothing at all is ever simple. And if it is simple, then it's usually a bad idea.
But that hasn't deterred him from trying this anyway.
People are always finding obvious things right under their noses, right? And Eliot, while he has no problems with just drinking the day away, wants to know if this is the place he was dreaming of or not. ]
Worst case, it doesn't open and we're exactly where we started, right?
no subject
one could argue that over-complication was equally as bad. but, call it professional habit that helped shape the bulldog tenacity. ] Getting into the rooms with other means has been an obvious pain in the ass. Let's hope this is the right answer.
[ since, you know, everything in mathias has to be a damn puzzle. ]
no subject
Tell me about it. I don't know why this whole place is obsessed with secrets.
[ Time to try the first key, then.
Of course it's a dud. ]
Here, hold this so I don't get confused and try it again.
a saSSY CHILD i'm yelling
he extends his hand to take the tried key. ] Hey, have you passed by any sort of library? Study?
no subject
[ Like the one with the maps and where Eliot took the keys from. Eliot tries another key, and another, starting to feel frustrated despite having anticipated this. ]
Also, how come this is the only place with alcohol? Was it a dry town or something?
((ooc: here is the mod response to the spot hidden, feel free to ask whatever questions to them you have))
no subject
Yeah, the frustration was certainly building, the tried keys becoming more of a collection in his hands. he sighs, figuring he has enough to start trying to door a few feet away. There's a snort. ] A dry town might explain some of it, but what's up with all the knives missing? Or anything that's a viable weapon, unless you wanted to get creative?
[ there's a swear, under his breath, when the first two keys he tries also yield nothing, irritation sparking high. ] What the fuck's the point of a skeleton key if it doesn't open shit?!
((ooc; ooooh excellent! a great set up :) thanks for the link! ))
no subject
[ Ok, so it's not a perfect joke, but he's trying.
He finishes up on his own set of keys, rubbing his eyes before handing them over. ]
They have to open something.
no subject
I'd be lying if I said I didn't have the urge, before the gaggle of cowboys set up their production. [ said with love, honestly.
in his fumble of keys, and distraction in piecing out the ones he's tried with the ones Eliot gives him, a single key clatters to the ground. ] Shit.
[ he's bending down to swipe it up when something catches his eye at the crack between the door and floor. ] Huh - that's weird. Look at this.
no subject
[ Eliot moves over and crouches down on all fours, stooping to peer under the door. He's not really sure what he's expecting, maybe something shocking or horrifying, but another hall? It seems a little anticlimactic.
Frowning, Eliot glances around at the hall they're in, then back under the door. ]
Well, at least whoever designed this place was consistent. Do you think they all lead to more halls?
no subject
five is dusting his slacks off by the time Eliot is done with his observations.
on one hand, he's been ejected mid-jump before. on the other, habit dies hard, and it's the first thing he thinks to do, because this was worth a look. ] Well, let's see if we can find out, shall we?
[ he doesn't actually...wait for the confirmation before he's blinking out from this side of the hall to, what he hopes will be the other side of the door.
he's genuinely surprised that it works, as he reaches for the door latch on the door. ] You know, I'm surprised that worked.
no subject
He's just getting up when the door opens for him. ]
Cool party trick.
[ Like, he's seen it done before, so it's not mindblowingly awesome, but it's still very cool. And useful. ]
I'm surprised it worked, too. I'm starting to feel like we're in some sort of funhouse.
