021 » WHAT GOES AROUND GHOST AROUND

characters: Elena Gilbert and funeral goers—Elijah Mikaelson, Dean Winchester and Helen Magnus.
location: The makeshift cemetery, south Mathias.
date/time: Late evening, say 6pm.
content: Overwhelmed with guilt, Elena holds a little ceremony for the spectre that she witnessed being murdered. In reality, she's holding it for herself.
warnings: Mentions of death, grief, murder.

The makeshift cemetery could use another marker.

Wrapped up in a long, thick winter coat with a patterned scarf wrapped around her neck, Elena isn't quite sure of what to make of the little gathering that's appeared for the spectre. Perhaps they think she's a little lost (they're not wrong) or perhaps they think that she's saying goodbye to someone she knows (she is). Whatever their reasons, it doesn't matter in the end. The one lesson she's learned over the last few years is that strangers or acquaintances tend to pull through for her when she least expects it.

She ensures not to kick the lantern that flickers by her side as she kneels on the snow. It soaks through her jeans and sticks to the denim, but she hardly shivers. It's with an old and worn sneaker (she couldn't find a hammer) that she hammers in the uneven, splintering plank of wood into the earth and snow. She does her best with her human strength, but it's a little on the wonky side.

There's no name on the makeshift marker. Elena had known what name she wanted to put on there, but she uses the excuse of Elijah's presence to forgo using the pen in her pocket.

Letting out an exhale, she looks at the marker. "This is for whoever you've lost that you didn't get to say goodbye to." Plucking the thick pen from her pocket, she still doesn't look up. "You can write that person's name on the wood if you want."

Elena will be when everyone's gone. She'll write two names on the wooden panel.

[ ooc: Anyone is welcome to have seen Elena determinedly gather things from the general store and abandoned houses and followed her to the cemetery. Action spam/prose welcome.

The above write-up is my top level so I'll assume anyone who tags in wants to interact with Elena. (Please note she has a Madness that means she has a fear of being buried alive or of cemeteries, ha.) That said, please feel free to top level as I imagine some of you may want to interact with one another! (Just imagine everyone coupling off to talk quietly since one big long thread with multiple people is bound to be, in the words of Beyonce, a disas-tuh.)

No, there certainly isn't. Thankfully, I can operate without the scientific labs of the modern era. It makes my job far easier, but, it's not a necessity.

[ there is a perk of her eyebrows and a small shrug. she remembers when most medical fact was ground breaking science. ]

Isn't that the point of the scientific method? You test a hypothesis in hopes to learn more. Failure or success will give you more information than you had previously. What do we know of the fog other than it can kill? What side effects does it give? A long term effect can only be observed in real time, unfortunately, so that is a bit of a long experience.

Science has never been a strong point for me.

( while he wasn't as much a proponent for going in head first as his brother was, problems did tend to get handled head on and as quickly as possible. waiting things out didn't tend to work well because of the threats to life and property. )

Unfortunately, I don't know much time you have here. Things seem to move very quickly that a long term study of something like a weather event seems like it would be pointless with everything else going on.

I rather hope, honestly, that there is no long term study. I would far prefer it that we quickly resolve this and return everyone to where they need to be.

Weather event? Other than our rather odd mysterious killer fog?

Well, the sow is rather...long lived.

( look, he doesn't mind the snow or the cold but he's starting to get tired of constantly having to dry his clothes and shoes when things get damp with the cold.

he doesn't want to complain but he also really wants to complain. )

I don't think a quick resolution is going to happen though. If it hasn't happened already, how would it happen now?

I see you don't live somewhere with snow.

[ she gives him a playful smile. ]

Why does anything happen when it does? For all the power that any of us could ever muster? Somethings remain out of our control. While I'm not certain there is a higher deity or forces at work that make that happen, but, it feels there is something guiding our motions sometimes.

I live in New Orleans.

( so while he's seen snow, he hasn't seen it in quite some time. it doesn't tend to snow in new orleans unless a witch is causing it. )

I can agree that I think there's something bigger at work here but I don't know how to go about finding out what or who it is. I'm begining to wonder if it is a who, honestly. I think they would have shown themselves or some sort of evidence if it was a person.

( in his experience, people with that kind of power don't keep themselves hidden long. )
