Typically, at least in my experience, something like that comes from a demon or spirit trying to manipulate you for their own gain. In our case, back home, we are prone to possession, and we, as beings with a physical body, are the only way a spirit or demon can gain access to this world. Doing that spell very well could be all of you signing a contract that says why yes please take over my body and do whatever you like. Go kill my friends. Or it could be unlocking the cage to something big. It likely chose you because you would have no idea, NOT to do it." He sighs.

Especially if it takes multiple willing participants for the ritual... it's something, big. Uttering about humility and fear may simply be their subjugation to whatever being they follow, it could be a cult doing the wishes of Mathias itself, or perhaps something else entirely."
