Doc knows a big black cavernous void of the nothingness that awaits in dark and lonesome places, perhaps after death assuming men like them would be spared from hellfire nipping at their heels and anything else that comes with the eternal damnation package.

That wasn't the abyss. There was something there. Someone. Maybe the someone who brought them here in the first place. But why keep them alive this long instead of swallowing them up whole like it did those womenfolk?

"If it wanted us to jump, jumping would have happened two months ago." Not that Doc is the type to jump when other people ask him to, even politely. "The fire could have taken us in our sleep, intentional that it was. Something else is at play here. Something I frankly care very little to speculate of at this point. There is nothing we can do about it. We caused that explosion at 1307 - we could have hurt someone. We could run out of food and water tomorrow. Those are things we can do something about."
