"If I had my gun, I'd go out there and take care of the damned problem," he breathed out in half a snarl. "What I wouldn't give for a quiet day and a good goddamned book. Hell, I'd go back to Harlan and not complain," he sighed.
"I used to stay up and listen to the dogs that barked too late into the night. Every once and a while, we'd get a wild hog gone rabid. Hellva sound they make. Suppose I oughta be grateful nothin's screaming out there."
