It was the note of despair in her voice that twisted Raylan's heart, the way she tucked into herself like she could make herself small enough to avoid notice, to be untouched by the beating drums of trauma that were sounding around them.
A hug is still what she needed. Sane people might have taken the punches to the stomach and the knee to match as a reason to not try again, but Raylan wasn't scared of a beating or taking a chance. He scooted forwards and fractionally to her side, wrapping an arm around her.
"It's gonna be okay Callisto. Might not be perfect, but we will get through it."
