"So long as we get a sturdy frame," he offered with a weak lift of his features. Raylan tried to hoist a smile, but there was too much kicking around in his head to escape the hell that they were being put through right now. There was only one play left. Not avoiding the elephant in the room.
And yet, Tim found a totally different route and Raylan let himself be led down it the same way he'd allowed himself to be led back home. Tim already knew that Raylan was a reader, so it wasn't hard for the older man to fall into the story.
Time slipped away again, under the steady cadence and rhythm of Tim's storytelling and by the time the sniper had come around to the end, the sundae had been finished and the bowl set to the side in favor of leaning his shoulder against Tim's. The story helped as much as Tim's solid presence against him, but the darkness of the chasm he'd seen was quick to start seeping in around his edges.
"I wish we were anywhere but here," he sighed wistfully, eyes looking up at the ceiling that needed another cleaning - dust accumulated so fast here. "Anywhere that makes sense in the loud moments."
