The sound of feet in the sand behind him has him turning as she calls his name, face breaking into a soft smile that pinched into concern at the look on her face. He'd been worried about her but Jeff had belayed those concerns the day before. Coward. Maybe he was. Maybe he didn't want her to see him so fucked up and stretched thin. Maybe he wanted to keep her out of it.
