Oh, thank you for noticing. I'm so glad we got that out in the open for everyone to notice.

[ There's an air of humor in his voice though. He's just good at pretending to be offended.

He gestures to the door frame and then moves up to it. He spins the knife in his hand before starting to carving at the doorway. ]

The plagues were meant to show the big bad Pharaoh who was the true God. You know, the idea that the Almighty could punch harder than the Egyptian Gods. Pissing contest, in my eyes, really. Came down to the fact Pharaoh had a bit of an ego and wouldn't let the Hebrew people go. So, then God whipped out the biggest and baddest curse he could to make the poor people suffer because of their bloody king. Every first born of every family and the cattle. Poof, dead, in a night. The good old Angel of Death.

He told Moses to get everyone to put lamb's blood in the doorway. Said the Angel of Death would know the people who worshiped God and would literally passover their homes. [ John shrugs at Claire. ] Worked, obviously. God's a bit picky like that.

And well, we're lacking a lamb, so, might as well see if we can seal the house off with our own power. Well, mine. [ He gestures to the very crude carving, a hand with fingers pointing down, and an eye in the middle. ] Hamsa, protection against evil and blessings. Might as well see if the spooky things respond to the power of God.

[ Not that John really expects it to work. Then again, they always say if you have the faith it works, it works. Manny would be over the moon somewhere that it'd work... and given the fact Claire has faith in the angels? It might work for her too.

John raises his thumb and slices it open, pressing it against the wood and moving it up one side, along the top, then down the other side. ]
