Re MAGIC: John can scratch all the scribbles he wants on the doorways! The whispers will still be there, and after about 5 days, his scribbles will have faded as if weathered away by a few decades. Lather, rinse, repeat as often as he likes. :D
The House: — A family of artists. It's hard to tell which or if both of the parents are photographers, but there's quite a lot of framed artsy photographs around the house, along with old cameras displayed on bookshelves and many texts about photography. The teenaged daughter is an artist, her walls covered with drawings and a number of types of pencils, art pens, and textured papers stored neatly in her room. The third bedroom is a guest room and holds more examples of the family's art. — Normal tools in the garage, nothing too fancy, just general repairing stuff around the house type fare. There's a pan or two of paint from a "recent" repainting of a room, which miraculously are still fresh, and a set of sidewalk chalk from the kids. — The food in the fridge/pantry is the same as in other parts of town: still oddly fresh and stocked as if the inhabitants are going to return home and cook dinner. (John can find a frozen chicken in the freezer purely because I want to see what he does with it.) — Not yet. Sorry, John.
