Maybe there was. Maybe there wasn't. Either way, there was nothing either of them could do about anything right now, so dwelling on it wasn't helpful. One hand slipped up to the back of Tim's neck where he set a thumb to brushing back and forth for a short while.
It was okay. Tim could doze off and not risk getting a crick in his neck, even though this would have been a lot more comfortable with Raylan's weight against the wall. Still, he was able to balance them just so, so that his lower back wasn't taking the effort of holding up their everything.
Tim was right; Raylan wasn't going to go to sleep - Mathis would have to put him down. Sleeping down here wasn't a good idea, but maybe if one of them was awake, he could hold off Mathis's influence. Maybe he could hold off the Shadow Man.
It was a few long hours later before Raylan's rubbing hand was rubbing across his shoulders with the soft intent of waking Tim up. He was sure it wouldn't take much and that was the gentlest way he could think, with an added soft "Hey," rumbled into his hair.
