They were a pair. Each with perfectly good reasoning to turn back (keeping the other safe) and each with the bit between their teeth and raw stubborn determination to come out on top of a situation. They were both idiots and with no Art or Rachel to rein them in? They could be each others' better angels or demons. Today it seemed demons won out.

"Ifn' I'd know you needed your stilettos for this dance I would have brought them from the house!" The wind nearly swept away his voice but the years of yelling over chaos, listening out for the yelling over chaos, served him well.

The humor being tossed back and forth was genuine, but it was also edged. This was one of the first ways in which he and Raylan had connected back home.
