DAY 045-047
THE CALM BEFORE“A gift consists not in what is done or given, but in the intention of the giver or doer.”
— Seneca
Residents awaken to a grey sky filled with a feeling of lightness, as if some weight has been lifted from their chests. They can breathe a little easier and their grief has lessened. There is the smell of fresh, damp earth in the air, and when they look out their windows, they will find that the fog has been chased away by the gently falling rain, retreating to its normal resting place.
Everything feels calm and slow after the stress and grief of the last week. There's something like relief that touches everyone in the village, sweeping through and cascading over all of them like the soft raindrops that sink into the earth. That rain continues for three days, a steady presence that imparts a peaceful melancholy that is almost welcome after the pain many have endured in this strange place.
To counter these weather-induced blues, one resident has decided to host a party on day 046, posting a notice on the bulletin board the day prior. Be sure to hydrate after drinking away your woes.THE NEW ARRIVALS
The newest arrivals to Mathias will wake up on the beach near The Grey Gull. It's quite chilly out with their wet clothes, but surely there's something to help warm them inside the restaurant. They may even find some alcohol within — and not just the cowboys' homemade moonshine.

DAY 048-049
THE STORM
The rain continues to fall but at a more aggressive pace. There is the distant rumbling of thunder, though it never comes too near, seeming instead to stay out over the ocean. One might even spot lightning streaking across the distant darkened sky every now and then. It's a miserable time to be outside, with the wind blowing the rain almost sideways, soaking anyone who ventures from their warm safe havens and chilling them to the bone. But for those who do wander out into the elements, they will find something strange along their way.
There, on the ground in the rain, in any location around town, is something that belongs to them. An item of clothing, perhaps, or a personal item, water-laden and waiting to be found. It is something they brought with them to the strange little town, something that shows every sign of wear that they will recognize. It is their own, and they can't help but wonder how it got here when they left it‐
But upon returning home, they will find that item precisely where they left it, exactly as they remember it. Somehow, there are two, and as the days progress, there may be three, or four, these items found and retrieved only by their owner, each identical in every way, including how they should not be possible.DAY 050
THE WARNING
At some point throughout the day, residents will notice a blinking light on their answering machines, though they do not recall hearing the phone ring. It is their choice as to whether they listen to the message, though it will be gone by the next day, erased from the tape as if it had never been.
Should they listen to it, they will find that the voice is their own, that much they can tell. There's a cadence they recognize, as well as a panicked, fearful tone that may have become quite familiar in recent days. But the recording is garbled, static cutting off some of the words, and it's difficult to say if the ones missing were of great importance."...don't accept... whatever you... rid of it..."
The message can be replayed without consequence, though it continues to be distorted. And, should one resident confer with another, they will discover another eerie element to this whole affair — whoever hears the message hears it in their own voice.
— THE WEATHER conditions are fairly typical for mid fall: cool days and chilly "sweater weather" nights. It seems to be warming up like spring but the leaves still look so much like fall... though there does appear to be a bit of green popping up between the reds, oranges, and browns now. How odd.
— THE FOG has receded from the center of town but remains blocking the paths in the forest. Beginning a few dozen yards past the treeline, this section of fog will urge residents to stay huddled within the town proper by inducing a physical reaction of panic and fear. This type of fog also blocks the western section of town, beginning just past Hill Lane, shortly before where residents know the chasm in the earth to be between Hill and Stine Road. Venturing into the fog blocking these areas is ill-advised; residents who enter it will be gripped by a panic so strong that they must retreat the way they came.
— THE OTHERS have gone without a trace.
— DISAPPEARANCES appear to have ceased for the moment and a number of residents have returned. Welcome back!
— ALCOHOL is still in Mathias! (Though supply may be starting to run low if they haven't been rationing.) A small stock of beer and cheap wine may be found at the General Store, and some homes may have a small store of alcohol in the fridge or pantry. The Grey Gull was also restocked with its lower-end offerings of a variety of alcohol types. Alcohol is not replenishing in the same way as food.
— PAGES These have been recently updated: deaths/disappearances, locations, madnesses, housing. Please give these a look and make sure any character information is correct and up-to-date.
— BULLETIN BOARD This has also been updated. If your character has removed any messages or rearranged things, please comment there so these changes can be made!
— TEST DRIVE The Spring TDM went up a few days ago! TDM threads are easy ways to wrack up AP, so don't forget to track the post so you know when new people pop in — if you have a paid account, you can track new top-levels by clicking the bell and selecting More Options.
— MOD STATUS The usual reminder that it's just Amy steering this ship for now, so things will probably be pretty slow for a while. Apologies in advance, and please don't feel shy about pinging me if you're stuck waiting for something.
