Doc needs his gun belt, even if there are no guns in them. He feels better with it on and it would free his hands up from holding the torch and knife anyway.

Anyway a fog that kills people makes no sense either, but maybe it's safe underground. Hell maybe it's just a grain store or wine cellar." Or a munitions store. They should be so lucky. Doc is willing to entertain a dozen ideas about the hatch.
He's just not that keen on going down there, and the dread of it turns his expression something serious as they return to 1307 and get what they need.
