When the other two gentlemen have stepped away from the plank a bit, Doc picks up his end and shifts it so it's pointing straight across the crevice. To give it a hard shove and just keep pushing when the momentum picks up would be easy, but a surefire way to send it flying off their side of the cliff. Making it a controlled, slow and steady extension across is going to take strength and a few long minutes of hands staying plunged in the snow.
