His hands drop limply to his sides as he holds her gaze. That pain in her eyes - oh he knows that too. Maybe she can tell. He's lost almost every single person he's loved, romantic or otherwise. Not all of them have died. They've walked away from him with no intention of returning. He's let them go. He's buried them. He's held their hand as they are devoured.
